Hi everyone, some good news about PowerArchiver… I’ve managed to get in touch with the original developer of PowerArchiver, Ivan Petrovic, and he has confirmed that the product is not dead or abandoned, in fact it is still very much alive! There has been a hiatus over the past months for various reasons, but that we should expect to see stuff coming through in the coming months (hopefully the next 2 months).
The Windows 11 context menu for PowerArchiver on normal files (to be compressed, etc.) is now showing multiple tiers with two identical menus. See attached captures of the issue:

Hello!
I’ve just created SFX-Archives both from ZIP and 7z-Archives and none has an Icon as it seems.
I use the new version 22.00.11.
Zwischenablage_10-22-2024_01.jpg
Basically I used powerarchiver context menus to zip up a folder then i used windows 11 own built in zip extractor via the context menu to extract all and this is where it throw up a fault. , I’m using windows 11 .
The file that was a problem in the zip that windows 11 could not extract was iva “babe” cotton.jpg
I know it has non standard quotes in it.
However I had winrar on the computer and tried the exact same method with their context menu compress to zip and then I extracted the file with windows own extract all context menu and it had no problems. This indicates that powerarchiver is doing something different with iva “babe” cotton.jpg compressing to zip.
Then I changed iva “babe” cotton.jpg to iva babe cotton.jpg and compressed it with powerarchiver and then tried it with windows 11 extract all and had no problems. It looks like powerarchiver is doing something to that one file that has quotes in it.
Please note that powerarchiver extracted both zip files with no problems, only windows built in zip extraction had the fault. Reason I’m letting people know in case they send zip files with special characters in files names to people who do not have powerarchiver.
When will a fix be implemented?
On installing the program I am getting the error message:
"Unable to execute file c:\Program Files\PowerArchiver\pashutil.exe
CreateProcess failed: code 2
The system cannot find the file specified"
This can’t be right!
I am using the latest official build of Windows 11

Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

I had a large .tar file (a backed up WSL) and I want to delete a few directories and their contents from it using PA2023.
PA just destroys the whole archive as soon as I try to delete a directory, leaving it in a state where PA2023 won’t even open it any more.
I tried several times and also tried compressing it to .tar.xz instead - same result.
This should either actually work, or it should say operation not supported and do nothing.
Hello!
The regular version of PA 2023 is out for over 6 months now, but there is still no sign of the portable release.
(When) will there be one?
Thanks!
Hello!
Is there currently no portable version of PA2023 available?
(When) do you plan to release one?
Thanks!
Win 11 64 bit
I have some archives which have been encrypted, using the encrypt option either in pbs or when interactively creating a zip. When I open these, and look at files, I am asked for passwords, which I know, and then can view items or decrypt the files in the archive (tools>decrypt files).
However, when I use the Actions>Remove Archive Encryption (whether using the same zip or asking to write another), the routine shows progress bar to the end, but then just hangs i.e. “OK” never activates. All process information shows this stalled/hanging.
What can I do to sort this out?
For example:
Download this ZIP file: http://dslstats.me.uk/files/dslstats32W-6.5.zip
Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !
I am running PA 22.00.09 on Windows 11. I have seen the same happen with some other kinds of archive too.
Explorer.exe Crash on right click
-
I recently ran into this situation on My Windows 8 x64 System by accident, and figured I should file a bug report on this.
Whenever you Right click on C:\Documents and Settings (The Junction Shortcut to C:\users in Windows 8. Usually a Hidden OS Protected file) explorer.exe crashes. Using Shellexview, I narrowed it down to the Powerarchiver Shell extensions causing the crash.
PowerArchiver Version 14.00.23 (08/2013)
In Powerarchiver configuration under Shell Extensions:```
All Shell Extensions under compression and extraction are added under submenu.Checked:
Use images beside menu items
Check for self-extracting ZIP, ARJ, ACE, BH, LHA, RAR files
Check for self-extracting CAB files
Display “Compress with options" itemUnchecked:
Open folder after extracting
Open Archive after creation
Split Powerarchiver/backup/FTP/Burner features into seperate submenusInfo From Shellexview:

Hello, please try with this release:
http://dl.powerarchiver.com/2013/powarc140030int.exethank you!
-
I know it’s been awhile, and at this point I’ve updated to 14.00.32 and Windows 8.1, but I can right click on C:\documents and settings with no issue now.
-
this was indeed fixed, thanks for the report!
-
I’m getting this crashing explorer.exe in 64 bit Windows 7 when right clicking junctions.
Could the problem have come back?
Note that I have yet to confirm whether uninstalling PowerArchiver fixes it.
(I’m currently using PA 14.01.06)Also it usually occurs the second time I right click on a junction in a particular open folder window.
-
it seems to be fine here…
-
-
CORRECTION:
I’ve been experimenting with SysInternals autoruns.exe disabling things to see what cures my problem and disabling this:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Folder\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\PowerArchiver64
which refers indirectly to
“c:\program files (x86)\powerarchiver\pashlext64.dll”fixes the crashing problem when right clicking junctions, at the expense (obviously) of losing the PA right click on folder operations.
Next I’ll try rearranging my PA context menu items to see if that fixes it.
-
No, fiddling subtly with PA’s right click options makes no difference.
:( -
try this:
1. save you PA registry via Options> Export settings.
2. Reset your PA options by using set defaultsIf it still happens, try disabling every other shell extension but enabling PA and lets see if it happens then.
We have to find a way to reproduce it here.
What exactly are you clicking on? I tried C:\Documents and Settings as well as C:\users All Users or Default user and it all seems fine, and i have tons of various different PA shell extensions on.
Also - always use latest PA - which is 14.02.
thanks!
-
I think you probably need more than one junction for it to fail.
Please try this:
Download JUNCTION from here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb896768.aspx
Extract junction.exe from the junction.zip you downloaded in to C:
(or the root of any other local drive or partition)
open command prompt and cd to the root of your chosen drive, run junction, and agree to EULA.
Then do:md test-dir
junction junc1 test-dir
junction junction-test test-dir
Then open an explorer window and right click junc1 several times.
You don’t need to choose anything from the resulting menu if it appears.I find the first right click produces a menu with slightly garbled PowerArchiver parts in it and then the second time explorer crashes.
Afterwards you can clean up by doing this at the command prompt:
junction junc1 /d
junction junction-test /d
rd test-dir
del junction.exeor just delete the created items using explorer
Afterthought:
If you use C:\ you may need to run the command prompt as Administrator. -
…
Also - always use latest PA - which is 14.02.Why isn’t this showing up in PatchBeam, I have asked it to show me BETA versions.
-
i tried it with 3 junctions and was able to reproduce it… thanks!
-
Try this latest release please, it is up on the PatchBeam… let us know how it works :-)

Hello it’s me again.
I’ve found ANOTHER case where right clicking a junction still crashes explorer due to PowerArchiver. (Using PowerArchiver 14.02.03).
Then do:md test-dir
junction junc1 test-dir
rd test-dir
Then open an explorer window and right click junc1.
Explorer should crash.(If it doesn’t maybe you need two junctions in the root).
Afterwards you can clean up by doing this at the command prompt:
junction junc1 /d
del junction.exeor just delete the created items using explorer
If you use C:\ you may need to run the command prompt as Administrator.
Thanks in advance.

Hello?
-
We got it, we will check it out for next release, as usual :-)

We got it, we will check it out for next release, as usual :-)
Is this (Explorer crash when right clicking a junction pointing to non existent folder) supposed to be fixed in 14.02.05 ?
Either it isn’t fixed for me or, as often happens, Powerarchiver is proving difficult to update to the latest version without some old files getting left in use.
-
nope, it will come in update to come :-)
-
When exactly?
Am I only allowed one bug fix or something?
Is somebody reporting more than one bug regarded by you as a trouble maker? -
of course not, we had some other things to finish up first…
-
Brian,
do you have ZTE installed as well, or just PA?
-
-
This should be fixed in latest release:
