Rar: Multiple file behavior.
-
Hi there
I have a issue with multiple file selection and the way PA deals with them.
If I have a file split into 4 parts…
AVI1-I go on holiday.part1.rar
AVI1-I go on holiday.part2.rar
AVI1-I go on holiday.part3.rar
AVI1-I go on holiday.part4.rarIf I select the part1 file…then all proceeds as should.
so then If I have 3 avis over 12 parts eg
AVI1-I go on holiday.part1.rar
AVI1-I go on holiday.part2.rar
AVI1-I go on holiday.part3.rar
AVI1-I go on holiday.part4.rarAVI2-I go on holiday.part1.rar
AVI2-I go on holiday.part2.rar
AVI2-I go on holiday.part3.rar
AVI2-I go on holiday.part4.rarAVI3-I go on holiday.part1.rar
AVI3-I go on holiday.part2.rar
AVI3-I go on holiday.part3.rar
AVI3-I go on holiday.part4.rarAnd I select all the files in widows explorer …then PA runs 12 extractions (1 full extraction of each avi for each part).
Winrar does not do this…It realises that there are only 3 avis and only does 3 extractions…
On a multipart file that begins with a *.rar and the .00 ,.01 etc…I can use the “type” selection to seperate them out of the file list…and I suppose the part1.rars could be seperated with a *part1.rar search…
But it would be a lot easier if I could just highlight all the files and do an “extract here”…as I can with Winrar at work.

well you are extracting 4 different files from each of the 4 different archives. What pa does is extract all files and then puts them together at the end. Winrar does the same but does not show this as it does it at the same time. Pa is more transparent.

thanks, we will take an look.

No… In the example…I’m extracting 3 *.AVIs …each *.AVI has been chopped into 4 parts (eg… If avi1 is 400mb…each part is 100mb).
When I noticed that the each AVI was being extracted 4 times…I allowed it to extract the first AVI…then when it moved onto the second file I stopped it after one pass (on part1)…and all files had been extracted.
