Hi everyone, some good news about PowerArchiver… I’ve managed to get in touch with the original developer of PowerArchiver, Ivan Petrovic, and he has confirmed that the product is not dead or abandoned, in fact it is still very much alive! There has been a hiatus over the past months for various reasons, but that we should expect to see stuff coming through in the coming months (hopefully the next 2 months).
I had a large .tar file (a backed up WSL) and I want to delete a few directories and their contents from it using PA2023.
PA just destroys the whole archive as soon as I try to delete a directory, leaving it in a state where PA2023 won’t even open it any more.
I tried several times and also tried compressing it to .tar.xz instead - same result.
This should either actually work, or it should say operation not supported and do nothing.
Hello!
The regular version of PA 2023 is out for over 6 months now, but there is still no sign of the portable release.
(When) will there be one?
Thanks!
Hello!
Is there currently no portable version of PA2023 available?
(When) do you plan to release one?
Thanks!
Win 11 64 bit
I have some archives which have been encrypted, using the encrypt option either in pbs or when interactively creating a zip. When I open these, and look at files, I am asked for passwords, which I know, and then can view items or decrypt the files in the archive (tools>decrypt files).
However, when I use the Actions>Remove Archive Encryption (whether using the same zip or asking to write another), the routine shows progress bar to the end, but then just hangs i.e. “OK” never activates. All process information shows this stalled/hanging.
What can I do to sort this out?
For example:
Download this ZIP file: http://dslstats.me.uk/files/dslstats32W-6.5.zip
Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !
I am running PA 22.00.09 on Windows 11. I have seen the same happen with some other kinds of archive too.
If I compress a folder to a .pa using right click, Compress to folder.pa and use the new Windows 11 menu then the Options, Configuration, Miscellaneous, Use normal relative path setting is always enabled.
But I like this option disabled so I have to use the old style menu in order to get PA to compress a folder in the way I wish.
Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

PA 22.00.09 shows a nag screen, when I try to open some setting windows. I have already PA 2023 Toolbox and PA shows, that it’s licensed in the info dialog.

I’m looking forward to deploying PowerArchiver 2023 to my users. Can you tell us when the MSI will be available for download and distribution?
Thanks.
Hi there,
there were some security issues fixed in 7zip:
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1165/
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1164/
As it seems, that PowerArchiver and PACL use the 7zip libraries, could you please update them to the latest version?
Hi,
From where I get PAVD2023.EXE? PowerArchiver 2023 tries to open it.
But it seems, it tries to download PAVD2021.EXE.
Thanks
I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz
It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.
Latest news on website
-
its ouit of date download version wrong website needs to be more interactive as well
more copmpetitions and challanges so people make powerarchiver specific plugins
-
Totally agree. It would be nice if this was the first port of call (not twitter/fb etc) that has all the latest information. Other businesses can achieve it, so I am sure that it would not be difficult to PA to implement. :)
-
It was discused awhile ago that the website would be getting a overall change making it more modern and simpler to navigate.
No preview has been shown yet, but I am sure they will be implementing changes relivant to your requests.

I think an updated website is still someways off…
the team seem to be focused on reaching a final release of PA but I’m sure the website is a focal point of theirs. -
I never said the website would be a higher Priority :) I just said that it was on the list of jobs being done, from what i have been told.
The release of the Application is the highest priority as it is this that brings in an income.

OK, I’ll bite :D
Only regarding “up to date info”…www.opera.com
www.videolan.org
www.zabkat.comJust noticed www.powerarchiver.com
Try Italian/Polish/Czech/Chinese
(Why do I have to switch to German before seeing other languages  )
New software PowerArchiver 2009 :eek:Italian/Polish Site Title PowerArchiver 2007

Richard my reply wasn’t in response to your statement in your post…twas just a general statement…sorry if you thought I was correcting you.

awesome suggestions!
as to the left overs, forgot to remove them… not enough people visited from those countries (they usually download from their own download sites or mags). We do English and Deutsch in the house.

I like a lot VLC’s and Operas new sites, they look great.
I am not sure how do they interact more, i think level of our interaction via fb and twitter is all right and more than any other compression utility… xplorer2 has old school website and news section is updated 3 times per year :)
opera also doesnt interact with its users?
-
any other suggestions? I like utorrent.com… but keep in mind that all these are free products, we need something that mixes things up :).
-
Just my 2 cents: I have no problem with PA website except that the “latest news” often has nothing close to the latest news about release versions.
Alpha, Beta & RC info don’t need to (actually probably shouldn’t) go here, but kept in twitter and/or blog posts if you want to announce them to a wide group.
But the website should definitely have up-to-date and correct info about the release packages; this issue is really independent of a redesign.

Well, to be fair, xplorer site is updated, whenever there is an update, it’s a one-man show :D
Opera has lots of interaction…
- The website is updated regularly with news etc.
- User Forums
- Team “blogs” - DesktopTeam / Core Devs / JavaScript Team etc. for Alpha releases and Special Test
- Youtube (like PA)
- Opera devs have personal “Blogs” and “Twitter”.
- Only the “bug-tracking” is closed.
- Opera wasn’t always free (site was similar when paid for).
I do think PA is also good - just things like the “latest news” etc. is always out of date. This forum is one of the best, though (due to spwolf, mili and even ivan “popping in”).
It is hard to find a good “paid software” website.
And impossible to find an Compression/Archiver site I would even suggest you should look at :p -
Was going to give Opera as an example but I see Terry beat me to it. :D

:) I know buddy, no harsh feelings.
I’ve had a hell of a week, Helped save a half a mill account from leaving my employer because of a fracking idiot account manager. Yet didnt receive one thanks!
Then ended up having to reload 2 months of Sales Records due too the Idiots in ashford not checking the data from depots, and after all that to top it off some noob decided to change a customer’s hierarchy structure that then duplicated statistics per customer and THEN sent off stats off to them thus the customer invoiced us Twice the amount for a contracted rebate, of which we then had to tell them it was an error.
Just one of them weeks!

any other design suggestions? Keep posting them :-)

To be fair, I don’t think it is a design problem. Just something that is not “out of date”!

i know, but i am looking for design suggestions :-).
I need to write up an document with examples to the potential designers.
-
as plain & simple as it might look the current eset nod site has a popular corporate look to it but each to his or her own I guess…:)
-
too old school moles :-).
need fresh and yet business friendly.
-
that’s me exactly ‘spwolf’'….‘old school’…:)
-
I like clean and fresh designs :)
Something on the lines of the following would be nice:
http://www.comodo.com/
http://www.acronis.co.uk/index.html -
http://www.mediamonkey.com/ - too dark for my taste, but very good navigation structure, which is pretty similar to what PA would need
http://www.techsmith.com/ - design is a bit old school too, but the way they structure their navigation menu is pretty good.
http://www.helium-music-manager.com/ - pretty good site
http://www.piriform.com/ - nice and clean design -
good suggestions all, keep it coming :-)

Avast did a very similar thing, now there site looks like this;
its clean, fresh, colourful and has both Home & Business tabs, including community section.
The about us section also great, they give a clear friendly and pro aproach making people feel like they know the developers even more.
Because PowerArchiver is so focused and directional with their customers I would certainly suggest more detail on the developer’s, owners and possibly key Testers etc.
It also has History, something always nice to know when considering buying from companies you dont know much about.

was anything decided on after this thread ?
