Faster way of testing passwords on huge PAE files?
-
I have a 2 gig PAE file that I’m not sure what the password is, I have a few guesses, but trying each password takes like an hour. Is there a faster way of finding out if I have the right password or not?

I’ve always been frustrated by that fact to the point whereby I’ve stopped using them simply because of the time involved.

Is it just a single file that you encrypted to PAE or
is it an archive that you then encrypted?
If archive then type and options used will have a distinct impact. -

there is no faster way, this was done on purpose to significantly slow down dictionary based attacks.
you can use zip aes or 7zip aes instead if you want…

with that in mind would there ever be a possibility they could be implemented into the context menu ?
-
what exactly? one click zip/7zip aes encryption?
we could add it as option to profiles so if you want, you could change your default profile for shell extensions…
-
yes I reckon that would be a nice addition…:)
thanks Boss!..nice of you to suggest it…;) -

Yeah I don’t know why I didn’t think of this, that is a very good reason :)
