For example:
Download this ZIP file: http://dslstats.me.uk/files/dslstats32W-6.5.zip
Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !
I am running PA 22.00.09 on Windows 11. I have seen the same happen with some other kinds of archive too.
Hello!
Is there currently no portable version of PA2023 available?
(When) do you plan to release one?
Thanks!
If I compress a folder to a .pa using right click, Compress to folder.pa and use the new Windows 11 menu then the Options, Configuration, Miscellaneous, Use normal relative path setting is always enabled.
But I like this option disabled so I have to use the old style menu in order to get PA to compress a folder in the way I wish.
Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

PA 22.00.09 shows a nag screen, when I try to open some setting windows. I have already PA 2023 Toolbox and PA shows, that it’s licensed in the info dialog.

I’m looking forward to deploying PowerArchiver 2023 to my users. Can you tell us when the MSI will be available for download and distribution?
Thanks.
Hi there,
there were some security issues fixed in 7zip:
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1165/
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1164/
As it seems, that PowerArchiver and PACL use the 7zip libraries, could you please update them to the latest version?
Hi,
From where I get PAVD2023.EXE? PowerArchiver 2023 tries to open it.
But it seems, it tries to download PAVD2021.EXE.
Thanks
I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz
It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.
If I open a password-protected zipper file (created with WinRAR but I think that’s irrelevant), open it with PowerArchiver and run “Remove Encryption” on the same file, then reopen it and add a password with “Encrypt Archive,” the resulting archive will be protected with the old ZipCrypto algorithm and not AES as indicated.
(this can be verified, for example, by trying to open the archive files with Windows Explorer, which does not support the AES algorithm)
PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
PA loads quickly..but drive lights stay on?!
-
This is my current annoyance with PA 2010. It loads quickly but the drive lights stay on a while after the load up and I can’t use PA2010 quickly enough.
For example…I click a zip archive and open PA. It loads fast…but for some reason the drive lights to the computer stays on and I can’t access the zip archive until the drive lights die down. What’s going on?
-
maybe antivirus scanning on demand?
-
-
I have antivirus turned off.
on demand scanning sometimes cant be turned off until you uninstall your AV.
How long does it take? There is no reason for PA to just open and stand there…there has to be something going on. Try reseting defaults and see what happens then.

Just to give you an indication something is up…I open up my “old” copy of winzip 11 and it flies. I open the same archive in PA2010 (opens quickly…but I can’t do anything because drive lights are on and need to wait until they die down). I did this after resetting the defaults.

is PA doing anything at all? Is it looking like it is doing anything? How long does it last?

You didn’t read my reply carefully. I opened up Winzip and I had no problems launching the program to read the archive. So it’s not the antivirus. If it was the antivirus…I would have experienced the same problem with Winzip as I’m having with PA.
So the problem is not the antivirus program. So I’m not buying the argument I need to uninstall the antivirus program to see if PA will load quickly and allow me to work on archives without the headache of the drive lights staying on so long.

antivirus programs sometimes whitelist applications like that.
now you need to tell me if PA looks like it is doing anything. You can also open up task manager and see what is causing the delay.
How long is the delay?
-
I think I found the problem. It’s PA constantly checking to see if it’s the primary source of zip archives. I selected the option to make PA the primary shell for zip archives. But even after I select this item…I am constantly seeing this message after a few reboots of PA. So why am I getting this message all the time? I think this is related to the PA drive light issue.

it means something that you selected is not associated by PA anymore. But i cant see how can that slowdown PA. It is just extremly quick registry check.

You call 30 seconds a quick registry check?! That’s how long the drive lights are on…I counted.

registry check is not causing the delay. you can disable it by going to Options> Config> File Formats and unchecking Show Associate…… option (first one at the top.

Okay…I did that so I’ll keep watching if this problem still occurs.

i am pretty sure it will… it would be helpful if you explain more how often delay happens, what happens with PA when there is delay and does it only happen with certain archives or all (big ones maybe?)

The archives I’m opening are ones downloaded off the web. Since I associated PA with the archives…I’m seeing this delay between the time PA opens and the time I need to wait for the drive lights to die down before I can access the archive.

next time save it to the disk and then open it (dont use Open but use Save). See if that makes any difference.
