Hi everyone

I upgraded to the 2010 Pro beta 11.50.49 and I am having a lot of trouble figuring out the zip compression.

As far as I can tell there are now 3 zip formats.

1. The old OLD OLD zip format that has been around forever.
2. The newer zip format (what PA used to call Deflate 64)
3. A brand new format.

While I know that PA handles all three formats I sometimes need to send some files to people who can only unzip format #1 above (Yes sadly those people still exist).

Can somebody please explain to me what I need to do to create each of the above 3 formats?

1/2 are the same, and are called .zip… so just send zip file and everything will work fine.

It is actually much better now as more advanced formats are called .zipx and only few utilities can read them…

I am confused.

#1 and #2 on my list are different.

PA 2009 had two zip formats.

1. Classic zip compression
2. Pk 4.5 standard

Both the above were incompatible with one another.

Now Pa2010 seems to have introduced yet another zip format (Zipx).

Hwo do I make format #1 now?

there is no #2 anymore, so there is no reason to be confused.

You create .zip archive (deflate, .zip - option) and it will work fine.

there is really no need for confusion - if you want compatible zip, you select option that creates .zip files (which is deflate, .zip). If you want best compression and .zipx, you use options that are marked with .zipx :).

Deflate (.zip, Compatible).

Here is the 1 million dollar question now :D

If I select zip (compatible) if I use “Ültra” under the compression, will a person wit classic zip only capabilities be able to open it?

If not, will Maximum be the maximum compression which can be used?

of course they will, thats why its called Compatible one

:-).

Ultra doesnt mean much for deflate so no need to worry about it.
