No longer able to open pk4 files by double clicking on them
-
I used to be able to just double click on doom3’s and Quake 4’s .pk4 archives (which are just renamed zips) and PowerArchiver used to open them and I could see the everything in them like any zip file.
With the last few revisions, when I try to open it it wants to create a zip file of the same name. Here’s a screenshot:
But if I go to File->Open Archive… and select that same pk4 file, it opens normally.

I tested it in Vista 32 bit but I only had pk3 files and they worked fine for me…would the format have changed that much I wonder?
I can confirm this now…just downloaded a PK4 file and tested it…same results as reported by ‘AluminumHaste’

I don’t think it has changed as you can rename it to .zip and it opens fine that way.

I double clicked on the pk4 file in Windows Explorer. When I did this Windows popped up a message saying that this file does not have a program associated with it, so I clicked the option to choose the program to associate it with. In the dialogue box that came up I clicked on “browse” button and navigated to the power archiver directory and choose the power.exe (or whatever the main executable is).
I choose the “Always use this program for this file” checkbox and clicked “Okay”. PowerArchiver opens but then I get that window in the first post.
But if I open PowerArchiver and go to File->Open Archive… and choose that same pk4, then it opens like a normal zip file. -
