What kind of archive is .tls?
-
Hi
Another archive question. Tuneup Utilities uses there own extensions .tls for logon screen packages and .tbs for boot screen packages.
I can open the files in PA, change the contents (image) and save the file again, but does somebody know what archive it really is?It would be nice if PA could show that information, or perhaps it already can?

I havent used TU since v2006. But if I remember right…
.TLS (TuneUp Logon Screen)
.TBS (TuneUp Boot Screen)I used to rename the file extensions to .Zip so assuming nothing has changed from v2006 they should still be zip files.
I also (vaguely) remember using the same method to open/modify/save TuneUp visual styles.
Here is a way to find out. Open a TLS/TBS and extract the files to a folder. Create a new Zip and add the files to it. *****Then rename the .zip to .tls and see if TuneUp recognizes the file and is usable.
*****Assumes you enable displaying file extensions in Windows Explorer

Or if you have a utility to show file contents in text / hexadecimal - check if the first two characters in the file are “PK…” [0x504B0304]. PK are the initials of the zip “inventor”.

Thanks guys :)
Yes, it seems to be a regular .Zip file. I had no problem renaming, extracting and zipping it again.
The first two characters in the file was actually “TK” but PA didn’t have problem with that. It’s so nice to be able to use any image for logon or boot screen.
