PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
WinRAR 5 has a rather useful option in some cases, which is to be able to create an archive by replacing identical files with a reference to the first occurrence (hardlink) within the archive.
In case you choose to convert the file with PowerArchiver to another format, however, the resulting archive does not have all the files. It does not consider those that were present as hardlinks.
If you do a normal extraction of the RAR archive instead, even with PowerArchivier, all the files are extracted correctly.
PA 2009 Beta - Backup problem
-
Hi,
I’ve made a first try with the backup function.
In the wizard I modified the following settings:
- 7-zip (Max. compression)
- daily backup at 16:30
But in the final tab it is constantly displayed:
- Archive Options/Format: ZIP
- Scheduling option: At windows startup
In the scheduling options window, the setting for enabling the PA queue is not remembered when I switch to another page.
And when I run the backup manually I get a 7-zip file without any compression!
Bug?

thanks, we will be checking it out

Hi,
I just installed the Beta 2 and the problem with disappearing settings seems to be solved.
But I still get a 7-zip file without any compression as a result.

thats the only thing we couldnt reproduce - are you sure you are not compressing files that cant be compressed any further?
thanks!

I’m sure, because when I do the manual 7-zipping I get a 12MB file and when I do it via the backup script the file size is 268MB (which is the size of the original files).
Those are mainly source code (text) files with some bitmaps files.
Another thing: I changed in the backup profile from 7-zip to ZIP and now the backup doesn’t start at all. The new PA windows appears but closes immediately after some seconds before doing any zipping.
In the logfile you will find only the lines:
Backup to O:\X-MAS\Zeus 2\Backup\Zeus2-07-24-11-24-48.zip started at 24.07.2008 11:24:48
Backup Done. O:\X-MAS\Zeus 2\Backup\Zeus2-07-24-11-24-48.zip
Backup Done. –- 24.07.2008 11:24:51So no file added to zip.

we will check with your pbs, since it works fine here… thanks!

I tried again with a completly fresh install of the German Beta 2 version and the problem was still present.
I get still a completly uncompressed 7-zip file.

we figured out what the issue is when someone sent us more info via support - it works when backup is started within PA, but if it is started from Windows, it will not compress properly.
Will be fixed in b3.
thanks,
