How do I extract the archives
-
I have downloaded a group of files that are numbered *.001 thru *.083. These numbers are in the place where extenions usually are. The instructions are as follows: " Just extract the archives and burn/mount with your favorite software "
I have no idea what to to with these files in order to get the *.exe and other files necessary to install this program.
What program do I need to “Extract these files”?
Thanks

What happens when you open .001 file with PowerArchiver?

Nothing happens.
I have just downloaded power Archiver 6.11 and i don’t understand it.Can you give me a simple A.B.C. recipe of how I can get thru these files to something I can use?
Thanks alot

I do not think PA 6 can handle those files. Have you tried the latest version of PA?

That usually indicates a split/spanned archive - I’m guessing that these are all the same filesize (except for the .001 and/or .083 files? Usualy there would be one more with an extension indicating the actual compression format - 7z, rar etc

Again there should be a clue to the archive type - can you provide the source site?

Sounds like after extraction you will have an iso file to burn to CD/DVD or similar. Then the utility (?) would installed from that.
Split files could be ACE, RAR, 7Z, Zip (depending on the version used.
Note: PA 6.11 was the last “free” version from 2001. So it will not support “large” archives (>2GB) or the newer compression formats.

Many thanks for your interest in my problem.
I installed Power Archiver 2007 and I got an “extract here” command when I right clicked my mouse. Your were right…it turned out to be a huge *.iso file. 4.3 GB.
Now I have a new problem. My Nero 7.0 Ultra Edition says that it can’t handle an *.iso file greater the 2 GB and says I should “use a UDF file system”. What is a “UDF file system”
I don’t know what to do next?
Should I take this problem to a Nero forum?
Thanks again

Depending on your needs, can’t you open the iso file in PowerArchiver as well?
-
You need to use latest version of Nero which probably supports UDF ISO’s. It is basically newer version of ISO format which has support for files greater than 2 GB and unicode filenames.
thanks,

Or download imgburn and burn it with that.

Power Archiver plus ImgBurn worked.
Thanks to everybody that helped.
