WinRAR 5 has a rather useful option in some cases, which is to be able to create an archive by replacing identical files with a reference to the first occurrence (hardlink) within the archive.
In case you choose to convert the file with PowerArchiver to another format, however, the resulting archive does not have all the files. It does not consider those that were present as hardlinks.
If you do a normal extraction of the RAR archive instead, even with PowerArchivier, all the files are extracted correctly. -
When adding to a file archive, and selecting for example PA format, strong optimization method, extreme compression. In the Advanced Options section you change to Automatic, EXE Filter and PDF filter . You return to the main section and save the Profile. When you then reload the profile you do not have the Automatic options of EXE Filter and PDF saved there.
I noticed that instead if you change other options they are saved correctly (except for the Filter box values). Also among the various changes to the advanced options you click the “Calculate RAM usage” button the value seems to be added to the previous one. You can see it for example just by clicking the button twice in a row, the value changes. Edit: actually after many attempts now it seems to write a stable value (it does not change with each click). Maybe a synchronization problem in the calculation?
Used PowerArchivier 2023 but there is the same behavior with the 2022
BUG - Reuse Windows Not Working
-
I’m using v10.20.21 and after selecting reuse windows and restarting PA I can click on multiple zip files and multiple PA windows still open.
Thanks in advance for looking at this.

thanks for the info - will be fixed in future update, whenever the first one is…

Hi,
here is the test version with fix:

Ok, that fixed the multiple windows opening. However, I now have a bug that I found while testing to see how it would work. I have listed the reproducibility as 50% because I was able to get this to happen approximately 15 times in a row and then it just seemed to stop happening.
Severity: Program Crash
Reproducibility: 50%
OS: Win Vista
Reuse Windows: On
View: Classic Toolbar
Archive Folders Bar: On##############################
##############################
Steps: Scenario 1Using three zip files: zip1.zip = 174 MB, zip2.zip = 41 MB, zip3.zip = 45 MB
1. Select multiple .zip files in Windows Explorer.
2. Right-click on the files and select ‘Open’.
3. The individual files are processed within one PA window, opened and closed I assume.
4. Close PA###############
Results: Scenario 11. The program may crash during the file open process.
2. If the program does not crash while opening the files it will after the user clicks the close ‘X’ button.
3. Program crash did not seem to occur if user selects File\Exit
###############
Additional Notes: Scenario 11. Arguably PA should either:
a.) ignore any files after the first selected file when the ‘Reuse Windows’ option is selected. Opening and closing multiple files doesn’t have any upside and only wastes time while sucking up a lot of processor ticks.
-Or-
b.) when multiple archives are selected from explorer, ignore the reuse window option and open each archive in a separate window. This would seem to fall more closely in line with how windows handles multiple folders being selected even when explorer typically ‘reuses’ the explorer window.
##############################
##############################
Steps: Scenario 2Using same three files as in Scenario 1
1. Open PA
2. Navigate to folder containing archives using Archive Folder Pane
3. Select all three files and right-click
4. Select ‘Open’###############
Results: Scenario 2This results in a client crash with no additional steps required from the user.
###############
Additional Notes: Scenario 21. Argument 1 a from scenario 1’s additional notes section should apply here. If selecting files from within the client and you have selected to reuse the window, opening and then closing multiple archives simply to respect the reuse window option is just a waste of time and processor. Ignoring all but the first archive in this case would seem to be the best way of handling this.
##############################
Thanks!

We will leave this for when we have more time for testing - i couldnt reproduce this on our Vista machines for 10.21 release.
