    • Need to find out how to disable "all users" to end UAC elevation prompt on running PA

      Q

I am looking for a way to stop the UAC elevation prompt when running Powerarchiver. In an old post about PA 2019, someone asked this and got a response to uncheck “all users” at the prompt but I am not seeing where one can do this. It definitely seems like the way to go though as if I click on “More Details” at the prompt I see that it is trying to run “_pautil.exe /paassociate /allusers /my(long binary string)”. Can you let me know? Thanks.

PS I tried renaming _pautil.exe and this worked, but I don’t know what the consequence of doing this may be so I would like to do this properly, thanks.

    • Does PA supports Intel's zlib?

      G

There would be many of us with Intel Processors.

and they have their own optimized zlib algorithm, which can result in more efficiency if used combined with their hardware processor.

      Reference:
      https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/white-papers/zlib-compression-whitepaper-copy.pdf

Can we get the same Functionality Under Hardware Acceleration Feature?

Zlib is not the only feature that intel has included with their processor, there’s many, which if combined can result in efficient and better compression ratios.

With PowerArchiver context menu enabled, it is crashing Windows 10 File Explorer when right-clicking on the Default User junction in C:\Users. Must have Hidden files and folders set to Show, and Hide protected operating system files cleared in File Explorer Options|View.

Disabling PowerArchiver context menu using Autoruns: on the Explorer tab, uncheck PowerArchiver64 under HKLM\Software\Classes\Folders\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers and the crash does not happen.

when Modern was default, it was around 85%, when Classic is default, it is around 50%.

We changed default to Classic for inexperienced users who dont know that they can change that setting, while more experienced users (that usually do use Modern) know how to change it and in fact, do change it.

                      Dam rite!

We discussed in previos forums that Winzip during install asks if you are an Experienced (Advanced User) or a Beginner then during install it sets Winzip for that type.

eg, advanced had more options in the menu and more icons for futher features! and beginner had the basic functions and little options to confuse the user.

Wither we could murge this into PA is up to the developers.

I don’t really know if it’s a matter of experience. I never really liked the modern interface. I just like the symmetry of the classic interface. It’s just more natural to me. Just my 2¢.

But then again, if we listend to those people all the time we would never have Apple OS or Vista Style we would still work on windows 3.1 style :D

One of the first things I do on fresh install of XP or Vista is turn on Classic Menus. :p That’s where I take issue with the Advanced/Beginner question. There’s no loss in functionality switching to PA classic menus. It’s not like the difference between Nero Express and the full version of Nero - no “wizards” popping up to help you along the way.

I guess it’s a matter of what people feel more comfortable with. It’s purely subjective. After more than 20 years with computers, I’ve just grown comfortable with certain layouts.

Sir Richard had a good idea about WinZip, maybe the advanced/novice user question during install could be dismissed in favor of a simple “which interface would you prefer?” question. Maybe showing a mini-pic on the install dialogue of both layouts. Less offensive to some :p and perhaps, more to the point?

                                        Hi Crunch,

We already have that on the newest 2007 version after a fresh install, However, Good Idea to murge into that an option to select the level of features you want PA to have.

I was thinking about this the other day and it would be slightly difficult to gain an idea of what basic users would want differently to advanced users.

Basic probably would have read capability on all archives but could only compress with the most common type “Zip, RAR and 7zip” Things like creating your own archive type “profile” would be disabled/hidden.

what are you trying to say that i am too the point??

if you hide something from the users, it wont ever be used… so selecting 2 interfaces is quite enough.

fair point :D I think maybe were just over complicating the whole setup of PA, After all the best software is the type you can install quickly and get using as soon as.
