Do you use the new modern interface of PA?
-
Just curious. Why Is there not button the configuration & menu to go the skin page right away? Now I have to goto www.pa.com myself.
Update: Classic has one in menu. Not in config

One of the first things I do on fresh install of XP or Vista is turn on Classic Menus. :p That’s where I take issue with the Advanced/Beginner question. There’s no loss in functionality switching to PA classic menus. It’s not like the difference between Nero Express and the full version of Nero - no “wizards” popping up to help you along the way.
I guess it’s a matter of what people feel more comfortable with. It’s purely subjective. After more than 20 years with computers, I’ve just grown comfortable with certain layouts.
I’m just one of those people who likes new things, I am not against the old style in fact sometimes its nice on the eye and I can agree that sometimes software vendors can get a bit over the top on the GUI!
But by-tor you are correct! it is all about user confortibilty.

@Sir:
it is all about user confortibilty.
You just broke my spell checker. :p

Sir Richard had a good idea about WinZip, maybe the advanced/novice user question during install could be dismissed in favor of a simple “which interface would you prefer?” question. Maybe showing a mini-pic on the install dialogue of both layouts. Less offensive to some :p and perhaps, more to the point?

Hi Crunch,
We already have that on the newest 2007 version after a fresh install, However, Good Idea to murge into that an option to select the level of features you want PA to have.
I was thinking about this the other day and it would be slightly difficult to gain an idea of what basic users would want differently to advanced users.
Basic probably would have read capability on all archives but could only compress with the most common type “Zip, RAR and 7zip” Things like creating your own archive type “profile” would be disabled/hidden.
what are you trying to say that i am too the point??
-
if you hide something from the users, it wont ever be used… so selecting 2 interfaces is quite enough.
-
fair point :D I think maybe were just over complicating the whole setup of PA, After all the best software is the type you can install quickly and get using as soon as.

Now that would really confuse beginners :p

its like paying for the full monty, and getting limp bizkit :-).
