PA 21.00.18 Action / Test behaves oddly for me on .PA files
    Brian GregoryB

PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
    Discovered:
    a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
    b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.

Convert archive is incorrect for some WinRAR 5 archives
    W

WinRAR 5 has a rather useful option in some cases, which is to be able to create an archive by replacing identical files with a reference to the first occurrence (hardlink) within the archive.
In case you choose to convert the file with PowerArchiver to another format, however, the resulting archive does not have all the files. It does not consider those that were present as hardlinks.
If you do a normal extraction of the RAR archive instead, even with PowerArchivier, all the files are extracted correctly.

When I encrypt a xls file without the compress option, the updating of the xls file doens’t work. When I Use the compress and Encrypt it updates.

      1. Encrypt a xls file
      2. open the pae file.
      3. double click on the xls file
      4. change something in the xls file
      5. save the xls file
      6. close xls file
      7. PA should ask to update the pae file. it doesn’t ask it. So the changes have not been saved

Updating PAE files is not implemented. Will be for 9.1.

          Thanks!

                1. Compress Encrypt a xls file
                2. open the pae file.
                3. double click on the xls file
                4. change something in the xls file
                5. save the xls file. On my PA the focus is pointed at PA. But i didn’t close the xls yet. PA aks me to update the arhcive because the file has changed.
                6. close xls file
                7. Open the xls again. Nothing has been updated.

                I have tested this on 2 pc’s

                BTW i’m using office 2000 SP3

Out of top of my head, I will say that since you did not close the Excel, PowerArchiver can not access it - MS Office programs usually mark their files in use as in use exclusivly…. I am not sure if we can make it so it shows you an Warning message when you try to update the file (something it would do if you just tried to add that file as new).

                  thanks,
