Bug extracting from ZIP etc using Extract here with PA 22.00.09
    Brian GregoryB

    For example:
    Download this ZIP file: http://dslstats.me.uk/files/dslstats32W-6.5.zip
Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !
I am running PA 22.00.09 on Windows 11. I have seen the same happen with some other kinds of archive too.

Windows 11 bug in PA 22.00.09
    Brian GregoryB

If I compress a folder to a .pa using right click, Compress to folder.pa and use the new Windows 11 menu then the Options, Configuration, Miscellaneous, Use normal relative path setting is always enabled.
But I like this option disabled so I have to use the old style menu in order to get PA to compress a folder in the way I wish.

    Missing Icons
    LuxorL

Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

Security vulnerabilities in 7zip / Update for PowerArchiver and PACL libraries?
    BigMikeB

    Hi there,

there were some security issues fixed in 7zip:
    https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1165/
    https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1164/

As it seems, that PowerArchiver and PACL use the 7zip libraries, could you please update them to the latest version?

    Hi,

From where I get PAVD2023.EXE? PowerArchiver 2023 tries to open it.
But it seems, it tries to download PAVD2021.EXE.

    Better ZPAQ support
    W

I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz

It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.

    Bug with "Encrypt Archive" action
    W

If I open a password-protected zipper file (created with WinRAR but I think that’s irrelevant), open it with PowerArchiver and run “Remove Encryption” on the same file, then reopen it and add a password with “Encrypt Archive,” the resulting archive will be protected with the old ZipCrypto algorithm and not AES as indicated.
(this can be verified, for example, by trying to open the archive files with Windows Explorer, which does not support the AES algorithm)

PA 21.00.18 Action / Test behaves oddly for me on .PA files
    Brian GregoryB

PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
    Discovered:
    a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
    b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.

What file type isn’t working? I have zip, rar, and 7-zip files and they all show up associated with PA.

i have installed a clean version of pa latest one onto the computer with windows 2000 installed.

i have even tried winrar and winzip and they both associate with all files ok even zipgenius can be associated with archives ok. So I know the problem has to be powerarchiver

i also have installed the latest opus directory 9 and that can also be assocvauted ok

I have checked pushed the assicate now button only to find nothing happens no changes are made to the associations.

when will a fix be made as this make it very hard to use pa. I likde pa loads more than the other archices even pas freeware version works ok on assocations so does versioin 9 of powerarchiver.

Is there a fix i can do till you fix the fault within pa’s assocaties now button

I have tested this feature out to find that the only archive that pa doesn’t associate with is zip files for some reason. When will a fix be issued this is a serious fault and needs to be corrected asap

I found this out by testing it along side winzip as that program can tell you what program is ASSOCAITED WITH WHAT ARCHIVE PROGRAM. I have asked for this feature to be included with powerarchiver, so i can give more info if this happens as it has.

Basically what i am saying is, is that powerarchiver has lost the ability to assocaite with zip files.

fix on way i hope as i use zip files all the time.

                      I tried this :
                      Starting with PA associated.
                      Using WinZip associate (all files)
Then using PowerArchiver associate (all files)

No problems - Everything worked as expected.
                      Windows XP SP2.

think i’ve found problem opus directory 9

this takes over control of the associations but does not work with the assocaites of powerarchiver or for that matter winzip or winrar.

you need to talk to these people to find out why this happens.

I have let microsft run some tests on my computer and that is what they say.

Itsd opus directory 9 fault as it handles assocaitions differently which means pa winzip and winrar all have2 to be assocated by hand via opus directory 9 if you are using that.

                            v10.10.10

I started with PA associated with .zip extension.
Verified PA had .zip association by double-clicking a .zip file and saw that PA opened the file.
                            Closed PA.
Ran WinRAR, told it to associate with .zip extension.
Verified WinRAR had .zip association by double-clicking a .zip file and saw that WinRAR opened the file.
                            Closed WinRAR.
Ran PA, told it to associate with .zip extension.
Verified PA had .zip association once again by double-clicking a .zip file and saw that PA opened the file.

                            Summary:
                            Everything worked as expected.

                            Prognosis:
File extension association would seem to be corrupt on bug reporter’s pc.

davidsplash, try testing on another pc or a virtual pc with only PA and one other archive utility installed such as WinRAR or WinZip. I think too many archive utilities installed at one time may be the culprit here. Or you can try uninstalling the others one at a time, each time telling PA to grab the .zip association and test if it works. Opus may also be conflicting here.

Good question. In the meantime…if a powerful Windows Explorer replacement solution is what you’re seeking, perhaps give Total Commander a try - it is very nice and useful with plugins etc. There’s also 2 custom versions you might find called Total Commander PowerPack and Total Commander Ultima Prime. Happy hunting! :)
