PA 21.00.18 Action / Test behaves oddly for me on .PA files
    Brian GregoryB

PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
    Discovered:
    a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
    b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.

Convert archive is incorrect for some WinRAR 5 archives
    W

WinRAR 5 has a rather useful option in some cases, which is to be able to create an archive by replacing identical files with a reference to the first occurrence (hardlink) within the archive.
In case you choose to convert the file with PowerArchiver to another format, however, the resulting archive does not have all the files. It does not consider those that were present as hardlinks.
If you do a normal extraction of the RAR archive instead, even with PowerArchivier, all the files are extracted correctly.

    Some bugs on Advanced options
    W

When adding to a file archive, and selecting for example PA format, strong optimization method, extreme compression. In the Advanced Options section you change to Automatic, EXE Filter and PDF filter . You return to the main section and save the Profile. When you then reload the profile you do not have the Automatic options of EXE Filter and PDF saved there.
I noticed that instead if you change other options they are saved correctly (except for the Filter box values).

Also among the various changes to the advanced options you click the “Calculate RAM usage” button the value seems to be added to the previous one. You can see it for example just by clicking the button twice in a row, the value changes. Edit: actually after many attempts now it seems to write a stable value (it does not change with each click). Maybe a synchronization problem in the calculation?

Used PowerArchivier 2023 but there is the same behavior with the 2022

      PA 2007 beta3

Having a problem extracting a folder from an PA password protected backup.

Though I’m first to admit it could be due to my misunderstanding of how this new version of PA does things, especially with the Queue option in it.

Created a password protected test backup containing 5 folders, 2 files in each.

To Extract it I opened it up in PA:

Selected a folder to Extract and clicked on Extract:

Selected a destination and then I get the message, Error The password is incorrect.(see screen shot)

Not even getting the option to type in a password. Unless I select Add to Queue, if I do that it works just fine. So maybe that is where my misunderstanding comes into it.

If I create a normal Zip file then I can extract a folder from it as I wish.

Nor really understanding why it should be different between a normal zip file and a password protected AES file.

Is it a bug or not ?

          . bug.

Fair enough. Will just use the queue option for now.

            Thanks!

The issue should be fixed in Beta 4. Also selecting “All files” - not just “Selected files” works fine. This is same as “Add to Queue”, since “Add to Queue” can extract only all files.

Sorry guys but it’s not fixed in Beta 4.

Incidentally. If I extract a folder from the backup archive by using the “Add To Queue” option It is extracting the entire archive, not just the selected folder.

Oops ignore the last bit as I just noticed that you said “Add to Queue” can extract only all files. Doh! :o

Did you check PPM in Configuration, is the wrong password stored there possibly?

Since If I just use new zip file, and select folder only and use selected files setting when extracting, PA asks me for the password and works fine?

                        Hi Spywolf.

Don’t use Password Manager it’s disabled so no chance of the wrong password being stored there.

Since If I just use new zip file, and select folder only and use selected files setting when extracting, PA asks me for the password and works fine?

Yes I mentioned that in my first post. No problem with a normal zip file at all. It just seems to be a problem when trying to extract a folder from a backup password protected AES file.

can you attach one of the files here? Just create some small test archive and post it here, and let us know how did you create it (options).

                          thanks,

                            Ok Spywolf here you go.

                            The Password is: test

Created a new Backup called test comprising 5 folders with 2 txt files in each.
File name and destination in this instance is C:\PA-Work\Zipped\test.zip
Add each folder to the archive. Include Subfolders is ticked ( I just leave it that way).

                            Next screen: Configure Backup Options

                            Compression Format Zip
                            Method: Add (and replace) files
                            Compression: Maximum (slowest)
                            Protect with Password: selected
                            Type password: test
                            AES 128 bit: selected
                            Add Timestamp to archive: selected

                            _DMY
                            use as suffix

Store relative folder information (not full location): Unselected
Show ‘Backup Done’ when finished: selected
Run silent if executed from Windows: Unselected

                            Next Screen: File Time Options

                            Include files:
                            Of any time

Nothing else selected on this screen.

                            Next Screen: FTP Options

                            Nothing selected.

                            Next Screen

                            Just click on Do Backup

To extract a folder from the archive.
                            Open Powerarchiver
                            Find the Backup.
Double click on the Archive this opens it on the PA-Work folder.
Double click on that folder and there are the 5 folders in the backup archive.

Select a folder any folder, I picked testfolder3.
Left click to highlight that folder. Click on Extract on the toolbar.
This of course brings up a window asking where to extract it (anywhere)
choose selected files click extract and every time it’s Error: the password is incorrect.

                            Hope this helps.
