Progress Beyond 100% Compressing 7z
-
Hello,
I recently switched to PowerArchiver from 7-Zip and so far I’m thrilled. However I’ve encountering odd behavior creating 7z archives with 9.51. I’m compressing a 4.37GB DVD image using ultra compression, solid archive, no spanning. The ‘current’ and ‘total’ progress meters both continue to 255%, then restart from 0% again. If I let the process run, eventually it completes successfully. However, if I click ‘cancel’ instead, PowerArchive hangs with the message “Cancelling, please wait…”
I’m just wondering if this is an issue with PowerArchiver or a problem on my end. Or am I just getting 2.55 times the compression for my money? ;)
Thanks!

This is a “known behaviour”, it is not a problem with your setup. Basically, the 7zip engine used by PA still progresses through the file list before stopping the compression task.
Regarding the progress bars - I have never seen this. Then again I don’t do compression of those capacities, so that doesn’t mean much more than “I don’t know”.
Maybe others have seen it? -
It actually completes the current file before canceling, thus saving your 7zip file from being corrupted.
There will be another update to the 7zip engine this month, maybe that will solve 255% problem, although I did not encounter it myself (and my compressed files are usually around half gig).
thanks,
