I’m looking forward to deploying PowerArchiver 2023 to my users. Can you tell us when the MSI will be available for download and distribution?
Thanks.
Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

Hi there,
there were some security issues fixed in 7zip:
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1165/
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1164/
As it seems, that PowerArchiver and PACL use the 7zip libraries, could you please update them to the latest version?
Hi,
From where I get PAVD2023.EXE? PowerArchiver 2023 tries to open it.
But it seems, it tries to download PAVD2021.EXE.
Thanks
I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz
It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.
If I open a password-protected zipper file (created with WinRAR but I think that’s irrelevant), open it with PowerArchiver and run “Remove Encryption” on the same file, then reopen it and add a password with “Encrypt Archive,” the resulting archive will be protected with the old ZipCrypto algorithm and not AES as indicated.
(this can be verified, for example, by trying to open the archive files with Windows Explorer, which does not support the AES algorithm)
PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
Changing shell extension defaults?
-
I take it from an earlier thread we can’t just outright change the default values for a type, we have to create a new “profile”.
If that’s true, how do we get shell extension context menus to apply these profiles instead of the defaults? (Compress to xyz.zip, Compress to xzy.7z, etc).
-
Basically, you cannot. Shell extensions do not use the compression profiles.
However, in PA you can change the compression option(s) to the required settings and close PA; it then uses these new “default” settings in the shell options
@Cyber:I take it from an earlier thread …
Was that mine? This “workaround” is described there.

I tried this:
Select a folder and go to “Compress + Options”
Change 7zip options and Go
Once it finishes, click same folder and do Compress to 7zip.
Wait for it to finish again.…but the folder sizes are different. Clearly not using the same settings as I configured.

The “default” options are set within PA application - not via shell. So you have to do the compression (once) within PA first and set the options there.
But you are correct, I just tried this using a folder of text files and my results are :-
Within PA
7z Normal - archive 333 KB (341,745 bytes)
Then via shell - archive 283 KB (290,426 bytes)Checking within PA
7z Max - archive 332 KB (340,986 bytes)
7z Ultra - archive 332 KB (340,987 bytes)
7z Ultra + PPMD - archive 265 KB (271,713 bytes)
Then via shell again - archive 283 KB (290,426 bytes)So I cannot tell which settings are used via shell menu
 -
PA uses predefined settings for -> compress to test.format. Settings are currently only saved for option screen.
9.6 here we come!

Does that mean we are about ready to start alpha testing the new version? :D :D :D
Or maybe we should give Ivan the weekend off before we expect PA 9.6? ;)

Note to Ivan - Sorry, I don’t have too much free time this week.
But if you manage next alpha on Friday then I can do testing over this weekend and will even have more time next weekend :pNote: we really need an  smiley

Give Ivan free weekend and you will have more than 9.6;)
