PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
WinRAR 5 has a rather useful option in some cases, which is to be able to create an archive by replacing identical files with a reference to the first occurrence (hardlink) within the archive.
In case you choose to convert the file with PowerArchiver to another format, however, the resulting archive does not have all the files. It does not consider those that were present as hardlinks.
If you do a normal extraction of the RAR archive instead, even with PowerArchivier, all the files are extracted correctly.
Shell extensions and profiles
-
Create two compression profiles (don’t rename them):-
- Zip - Move instead of Add
- TAR - compression Bzip2
Close PA.
In explorer right click a file and select “Compress with options …”For Zip format {Zip default} is offered with add not move - so not the new profile.
For TAR format {TAR default} is offered with Bzip2 - this is the new profile.I believe both should use the new profile options.
OR both should use the default (not the new profile options)
-
profile options do not (or should not) influence default settings. However, if you have changed it previously, it will stay on previously used setting?

OK, but if I change to use the “new” profile - this does not stay active for next use, so I have to select it every time.

Yes, if I change the settings (leaving the default profile active) - this does stay active for next use. So, I guess that is workable ;)
Just felt wrong to change the default profile settings instead of using a created profile as the active one - maybe that should be in wishlist.
