You cannot use 7z within PA BAckup Express (yet).

i see - then it’s very confusing that someone recommends to use 7zip format to support compressing locked files. so i can’t use 7zip in backup and also locked files are not supported (because i can’t switch from zip to 7zip in backup mode). right?

Well yes, but Backup Express is “normally” used for archiving (e.g. overnight). So then files are not in use.
As requested by Ricco - the advice to use 7z was for compression tasks using PA or shell extensions, such as compressing MP3 file whilst it is being played.
For Backup Express, you could use TAR.GZ, TAR.Bz2 or even BlakHole compression. These do allow working with “files in use”.
Also the compression will “probably” still be better than ZIP format - but not 7zip (of course this depends on what is being compressed). -
ok, tar.gzip worked. thanks!

Hi guys, I also complained about this a long time ago and with the new update v9.63.02 found that some of the files in use are added to ZIP correctly when highlighted and Right Mouse button-> Compress with Options is performed :)
However some files are skipped when using the Drag-and-drop in PA or using the PA graphical user interface to Add to a new archive
What is the difference ?
