Is there any way to get a PBS script to archive a set of files regardless of their archive attributes AND then clear the archive attributes afterwards? That is, can I get PA to perform a classic “full” backup? When I clear the “Add only if Archive attribute is set” check box (to disregard the attribute), the “Clear Archive attribute” check box becomes disabled and the resulting archive operation leaves the archive attributes of all files unchanged. Is there a reason that the “Clear Archive attribute” must be disabled when the “Add only…” check box is selected?

at the moment you have to maually unless you can set the windows task manager to automatiaclly add files

attribues depends on each system and archive what is your system and what files are you exactully trying to archive archive format and what size are they and what is their path names. do you have administrator permissions on your computer?

:confused: Uh, I’m not quite sure what you’re saying. (Using complete, punctuated sentences would have helped.)

My point is that PA does let me do an incremental backup by:

1. Selecting the “Add only if ‘Archive’ attribute is set” check box, and
2. Selecting the “Clear ‘Archive’ attribute” check box.

With these settings, PA backs up all files whose archive attribute is set, then clears the archive attributes of those files when it’s done. But what I want PA to do is back up ALL files (regardless of their archive attributes), then clear all archive attributes when it’s done.

But PA can’t do this because, as soon as I clear the “Add only if ‘Archive’ attribute is set” check box (so that PA will disregard the archive attribute and backup all files), the “Clear ‘Archive’ attribute” check box becomes unavailable.

what i am asking is what system windows xp 200 etc and what archive are you using zip or cab for example. Also i am saying that pbs is not automatic so if you want this you have to use something like mstask microsofts own offering and if you are using that then that might be at fault here.

Just a sugestion.

More info on what you are exactly doing and do you have administrator privilages on your computer when you do this and is the folder\directory where the pbs read olny

Correct - and you have already requested this in the wishlist

Personally, I don’t see a reason to leave the attribute SET after doing any backup (full or incremental), so I would want it always cleared.
So to differentiate FULL or INCREMENTAL, the choice may be based on archive attribute. But instead of an option to CLEAR it - the configuration option should be to NOT clear it :D
