Very high CPU usage while using 7zip compression
-
Hello,
I have a very high CPU usage while using 7zip compression at ultra high compression rate.
at this time I nearly can’t do anything except letting PA compress the file
-
Maybe if the user could choose to set the priority of PA, like audio players often allow. eg. Low, Medium, High.
-
yeah this would be great.
-
If you minimize PA to tray, it will set itself to lowest priority automatically… :-).
Although the problem I find myself is that 7zip is in general very demanding on memory, cpu and hard drive so I am not sure if lowering priority helps. Compressing is very intensive task…

It definitely would help. Lowering the priority would mean that other applications with higher priority would become more responsive during compression, at the expense of the compression taking a bit longer.

as I stated before, if you use compression ratio “NORMAL”, everything works fluently. Just if you select “ultra high” when compressing 7ZIP files the CPU Usage is very high.
It would be great, if the CPU usage would be the same like it is in “NORMAL” compressionBTW
I don’t min if the compression takes longer. Normally you do all compression works in background, so you can work in another program. -

Did you try it? Does it work better?
-
yes, it does

I think I can live with that
thanks ;)
