Associate with .r00,r.01,.r02….......
-
how can you set power archiver 2004 to associate these file types? i dont want to have to associate 50 types one by one.
-
Well, r00,r01 … are RAR split files so if you associate PA with RAR filetype…
r00 … r99 are also associatedNote: PA only supports RAR for uncompress - due to licensing, it cannot create/compress RAR files.
Note 2: .001 … .099 may also be assumed to be RAR files (old version) - but this is a seperate association setting!

it would be nice if there is a setting or section just for files that types that can not be created but can be opened by powerarchiver. This would help new users understand more about the files powerarchiver can create and can’t but can open.

PowerArchiver automatically associates .R00 and .R01 with RAR files. This is due some people in the past (when RAR was in DOS) liked to start archive set e.g. with .R01 so they know from the archive filename which volume it is.
So, since archive sets usually don’t start with .R02, PowerArchiver is not associating .R02 and all other extensions after this, but if you open .R01 file, you will get opened all files after it.
If you want to open some of these extensions, you have two options - but both of them are manually work;)
- go to Registry Editor -> HKCR -> e.g. .R12 -> and set Default value to PARAR
- right click on .R12 file in Windows Explorer and choose “Open with” and then select PowerArchiver

whay not make all r0 files asscoated wirth pa so that if you open any of the filesets it can open the archive and recreate it

Well there is one small problem. If all the files were associated, single user which opens one directory with all RAR volumes (.rar, r01, r02, …) he would icons (PA Icon for RAR) for all files and he wouldn’t know which one is the first one of the volume.
So, most users do not want to open RAR volumes other than first volume. So you can do this manually if you use steps described before.

why not have an icon just for the first volum i.e ro1 (a special icon)if thats the first one and the rest have an icon for rar archives. basically it would be nice if you clicked on asy r04 it tells you itt is the fourty part of an archive and can open the file. so if you open any part of tyhe volume it can open up the whole archive

Note: this applies to spanned Zip as well : z01, z02 etc. (also not associated / no icons).
I’m not sure about the icons, but are you referring to this wishlist request again:
