Adding and refreshing to folder trees
-
Well, my first thought -
I wasn’t using PBS
Just main PA- Create new Zip (default - no changes to archive flags)
- Close PA
- Modify txt files
- Open PA
- Open Zip
- Use Add Files / Freshen option.
ivan - Freshen is similar to “Add” with both archive bit options checked!
This was why I said
Is this necessary (should they be active by default if so)?
Referring to the archive flags in the PA / Add Files options when freshen is selected.

Hm,
Still works - can you please explain more detailed - all the options are checked/unchecked, and step by step.

Damn, cannot reproduce on Win 98.
Will try on Win2k (hopefully tomorrow). -
Tried again using both shell and main program screen. Definitely not updating or adding files to subfolders in a zipped main folder. Running Win2K and WinXP Pro. This is very unnerving - I can’t trust my backups in a release version of PA. Got to fix this very soon. I’ll try to help if I can. John

John,
please explain in step by step how exactly you are adding the files/folders, so we can try to reproduce it in the same way.
thank you,

OK Sure: here’s what I’m doing in both Win2K and XP Pro usinf PA version 34 Test.
Main folder c:\docs with various subfolders c:\docs\folder1; c:docs\folder2, etc…I initially created a file called c:\docs_sync.zip by archiving the entire folder c:\docs and saving full folder info. So inside c:\docs_sync.zip is c:\docs\folder1 and so on with their various files. The initial archiving works fine. But then I modify a file in c:\docs\folder2 (say), and then perform an Update and Refresh by right-clicking c:\docs Compress to ZIP +Options and pointing to my already existing c:\docs_sync. The warning comes up that the file already exists and also invites me to update it. Click OK. My settings here are Normal Compression, Write Directly to ZIP, Save Full Folder Info, and Include System and Hidden Files, Encryption Disabled. Click Add and get the same warning again that the file already exists and “Update Existing File?” Click OK. PA starts and finishes with no error messages. Here’s what happened: one new file was added as a zero-byte file, other new files were not added at all, and existing files that were modified were not refreshed. This is absolutely repeatable on both my systems. Unless I’m doing something wrong, (and I don’t rule that out), I can’t use PA as it stands but I would be glad to help resolve this. Thanks. John

This is weird.
I don’t know what happened but I cannot reproduce on Win2k now.Note: I also cannot reproduce using your procedure either

Before you click Add, is the <action>set to Add or Update ?
(I’ve tried both).</action> -
I have tried both as well and it seems to work just fine. Maybe uninstall PA, restart your system and then install again? Maybe your old dll wasnt replaced or something, it works fine here.
thanks,

Hi: did a re-install as suggested. I can update and refresh from the main screen, but files aren’t being added/refreshed when I attempt the same operation using right-click Compres to ZIP+Options. John

Hi: I may have some new info. Still checking. Using test version 35. I now get update and refresh working OK if I deselect “Save full folder info.” I’ll do some more testing. Thanks. John
