Changing Associated Icons

Is there any way to change the icons of the file assocations? It seems by going into the \icons directory, one can just find icons and rename them to the appropriate file names. Would this work, and if so, is there an easier way?

that would be the easiest way, but it wouldnt work until you rebuild your windows icon cache since windows would just use cached version…
