Virtual Drive Unmounting
-
I am using the virtual drive system more and more…what a time saver.
Is there any way to unmount a drive other than by opening PA? I can mount a drive without doing so via a right-click which is very quick indeed.
If there is not, would it be possible to add a context menu to unmount either to the virtual drive or the mounted image file?

I have mentioned this option in the past and would find it very useful indeed but admin advised me that it is available when you use the PASTARTER option in the systray…but I must agree it would be great to have the option in the context menu.
personally I’m not a pastarter user.

If you use Win7, you can also do that from Start Menu and Task Bar.

yes, right clicking the PA starter will give you the option to remove the VD.
The whole process shouldn’t take more than 1.5 seconds :)
-
unfortunately if like me you choose not to have PA starter sitting in your systray it takes a little bit longer to get to where you want to be.
I’m a context menu user through & through…it’s very rare I see much more of PA unless I’m specifying certain changes to an archive…or alpha/beta testing of course…:)

That’s me too! That’s exactly how I use PA. Seems a bit strange to have a context item to do something and not have the reverse similarly presented to users.
@ infimum couldn’t get your tips to work at all. If they did, a right-click would still be easier and faster ;).

PA does not display like that here. It used to though IIRC. Do you know what that part on the right is officially called so I can find out how to fix it? At present only two apps do this; Windows Media Player and Windows Live messenger. Using PA 11.61.07.

You beat me to it <g>.
I just fixed it, but I would still prefer context menus.

I do recall being involved in that thread but was never able to get my display to look and operate like ‘guido’s’…gave up in the end.

Do you happen to use disk or registry cleaning software, moles42?
-
only program I do use from time to time is ccleaner.
but even that program I avoided using just to avoid it cleaning my recently used entries.
tried again earlier today but I can only get PA to display recently used archives…I can’t get it to display like guido’s start menu no matter what I try…:(
not to worry though…you never know a context menu option may be in the distant future…:D

moles42,
Hope this does something for you.

If you were to do a search for “virtual drive” or “unmount”, you’ll discover there are a lot of postings.
Indeed once of the enhancements would be to have the unmount feature as a context menu item.
Another one is to add an option to assign a fixed drive-letter, e.g. “X”, rather than having PA assign
the first available free letter.Right now, it takes the first available free letter, which in my case, is also my external backup.
So I need to mind that I need to unmount any VD before switching on the backup drive.I think the context menu thing is on the wishlist since somewhere mid this year.

I fixed mine. Right-click orb, click properties. On Start menu tab, in the lower privacy section, the lower box needs to be selected - that’s all you need to do for the extra taskbar and startmenu functionality - at least that’s all I did.

I’ve followed both steps…the ones posted by ‘infinum’ and your good self ‘drteeth’.
the lower box was actually ticked on my system so i’m hoping that after my reboot all will be well.I’ll report back later…many thanks to all…:)
