Start up time before unzipping is slow!

Is there anyway you guys could speed up the time for when opening archives?
I am not talking about the unzipping part but the time it takes to start the unzipping after I click Extract Here button.
I just wish it was faster. I see the slow speed the most on bigger files.

I am running the latest build 11.61.07
As far as the files all sizes but it seems the slowest on really big ones like files over 1GB.

basically it is part of extraction process (it scans through the archive), it is just that progress does not start before it, so it looks like PA is doing nothing, rest assured that is.
I am talking about the difference between extracting 1 file in archive and 100,000 files in archive. Before that is PA startup time which we are always working on optimizing a bit.

WinRAR for exampe is much faster starting the unpacking of really big files.
Is kind of hard to explain.
What I mean is when i upack a big file with WinRAR the WinRAR interface displays almost instant and starts unpacking. Where as PowerArchive’s interface is slower at opening and kind looks like its frozen for a second and then starts to unpack.
You understand what i mean?
I guess you could say WinRAR seem smoother :)

Yes, i understand exactly… When it comes to actual speed (not perception), it depends on what format you use. Starting to extract 100,000 files in rar archive is a lot slower than in zip, because unrar.dll is slower to list those files.
But what you are reffering is perception probably, as PA progress shows only after pa engine goes through the archive, so it looks like it is stalling for 0.5-1s, but it is actually working.

similar system to mine…I just tested an archive (zip) with just over 15,000 files and it started to extract after about 2 seconds.
I assume yours is taking much longer? -
and also PA is 0.1-0.4s slower to start by itself, we constantly work on shaving 100ms’s from that time ;-).

I assume yours is taking much longer?i think he is reffering to first 1 second of the process… Its basically cosmetical as it gives perception that PA is not doing anything for a second or so (depending on archive and other things).

yes it does give that appearance as though doing nothing but I always knew it was working ‘behind the scenes’ before dealing with the task at hand…:)

Maybe you could do something like this for example.
Have the PowerArchiver UI open right away and then on the UI have a count down like “starting in 3,2,1”
I think that would look a lot nicer then the way it is now which looks like the ui is freezing.
Its just an idea :)

it is something that annoys me personally as well, so we are always working on improving it ;-). Just be assured that PA is actually working during that time.
