Unsolved PA 18.00.53 tab opening
-
Hi,
PA does not seem to be opening archives in tabs anymore. I have archive “A” loaded and it shows in one tab. If I load another archive (from within PA), the same tab then has the just-loaded archive in it. I would expect a second tab to open. I have not knowingly changed any options that would affect this.
OT: A while back I requested that moving up and down in an archive’s folder structure could be considered to work with a mouse’s forward and back buttons like windows explorer does. It is so automatic for me I still try to use them with PA first before realising I have to double-click on the two dots. Can this be done?
Cheers

is this in dual panel explorer view? We reproduced it, just making sure it is the same issue?
thanks!

It is not in dual pane view. I have attached a screenshot of the view I use.

ah yeah, so it is another thing… by default when you use Open, it requires you do click on + to create new tab in order to open there.
And if you use windows explorer to doubleclick on file, it will be automatically added to new tab.
So you think we should change behaviour when using Open button too?

Hi spwolf,
If I double click on files in explorer, another widow opens even if I have reuse windows selected. Tabs used to work in a previous version and the only things I have
knowingly messed aboutexperimented with recently are the toolbar icons. So you think we should change behaviour when using Open button too?
Absolutely! I did not realise that that was the case. I cannot understand why it was made to behave differently. IMHO, consistency is important in programs as it goes a long way to make them intuitive. I would assume that is somebody does not like tabs, they would likely want to turn them off globally rather than here and there.
Cheers

when it comes to opening from explorer, can you check latest .56 and lets see from there? It is on fast ring and also posted on forums. Thanks!

No real change. Double-clicking in explorer opens another window. Opening from the MRU list removes the previously opened archive so that only one window and the same tab is present.

try reseting your PA settings via Options> Reset to defaults. You can save them before if you have some important changes.
And lets see what happens then? Thanks.
edit: do save those settings first so we can investigate why.

Hi spwolf,
Settings saved first and PA set to defaults. Double clicking archives opened them in a different tab, opening from the MRU list did not (it should) and neither did opening files using the open button.
Would you like me to email you my settings? It will take me a couple of minutes to find your email addy.

Just a bump.
Spwolf, do you want my settings emailed to you.

@drteeth If you click on new tab sign on tab, then new tab is opened and open/mru will open there. This is how it is made to work right now.
For always opening new tab, we have to implement new option so it is switchable on/off. For the way I use PA, it would create too many tabs that I would have to close manually.
thanks!
edit: sorry for not answering sooner, we had server troubles yesterday.

Hi spwolf,
No worries about the late reply.
As for your problem with many tabs, just have a “close all” option.
What about my request to be able to use a mouse’s forward and back buttins to navigate the archive? I always press my back button first by instinct and only then realise that I have to use the cursor and my left mouse button.
I look forward to the tab enhancements.
Cheers
