Confusing folders bar options
-
I am not quite sure how do describe this. But I will give it a whirl.
I want to (a) select “Explorer with Folders,” and (b) I do NOT want “show archive folders” (indeed, I am not even quite sure what that is). But if I have BOTH selected, then in the FTP window, I have THREE panes: the explorer pane, the archive folders pane, and the server pane. I don’t want three.
If I deselect “Show archivefolders” in the view config menu, then it delects show “Explorer with Folders.” It conjures up the sense that I am Yossarian (Catch-22).
Perhaps I am missing something. But I kept finding “Show Archive folders” checked time and time again. I think that when I chose “Explorer with Folders” that it also select SAF.
I THINK MAYBE THERE’S AN OPTION YOU ARE TRYING TO PROVIDE . . . AND I DON’T GET IT. IF SAF IS CHECKED, THEN IT CHANGES MY SELECTION FROM “EXPLORER WITH FOLDERS” TO JUST “EXPLORER DISPLAY.”
BUT THEN THE LEFT PANE SOMETIMES JUST SAYS “FOLDERS,” BUT, E.G., IN THE FTP TAB, IT SAYS “ARCHIVE FOLDERS” – EVEN IF I AM NOT IN AN ARCHIVE.

just pick explorer display style and not explorer with folders, does that work?
you are correct - it returns the folders bar despite you click X, because selection is Explorer with Folders… i guess it should change the select to Explorer display style in that case, as well?
-
it does work fine for me, maybe you are turning it on/off in different way than me? I am using selection in the status bar. Thanks!

In the end, I am not worried about what we call it.
I was thrown inasmuch as I have always used (and wanted) explorer with folders. And I find it odd that the file list in the home pane is just called “folders” while in the FTP pane it is called “archive folders.”
there may well be a reason for the set up. But I kept checking one box or option, only to find other boxes or options were changed. I was confused (and still am).

I can turn it on and off. That’s no problem. It’s just that my selection changes once I uncheck “Show Archive Folders” in the “View” configuration tab.
It is the interplay of those options that I am finding confusing.
Perhaps there is not supposed to be an interplay. But there is. I can send a video if need be.

video on the way to your email.

As I said, this is hard to explain. And I am not doing well. Let me try again. I thought the video might help.
First, you have “Explorer (with folders)” in two places: one, on the status bar; two, in the left middle section of the View tab on the config menu. Though they have the same name, they operate differently (the status bar drop down option seems to trump the one in the config menu – which doesn’t make sense to me). The “View Archive Folders Bar” (top of the View config tab) seems as if it ought to control something different (the layout when the user is within an archive). But it doesn’t play well with the drop down option on the status bar. And, although the labels don’t matter all that much, it leads to either (depending on the other choices), a different column heading on the left pane of the FTP tab (when compared to the left column header on the Home tab), or, if VAFB and EWF’s option from the status bar are both checked, then there are three distinct columns on the FTP tab: folders column, archive column, and server side (not sure what it is properly called) column.

I remain perplexed.
1. I thought View Archive Folders had a special function different from that of displaying folders in explorer. However, if I uncheck VAF, and then select from the status bar, (a) VAF is suddenly checked again, AND (b) the status bar drop down menu is back to just plain Explorer display (not Explorer with Folders).
2. And why not delete ONE of the two places where the user can select “Explorer with folders”? I would have thought the config menu option trumped the one on the status bar. I thought wrong.
Probably I am just misunderstanding what these choices are supposed to do. But I assume if I misunderstand, some ordinary users will too.
Could you explain what’s what?

It is same option, so you can check it directly in Configuration or as quick option in status bar… Configuration has all of the PA options regardless if some of them are available in status or menus.
-
Not quite. The one in the status bar trumps the one in the config menu.
And the one in the status bar checks VAF in the config shell extension tab, even if iit was previously unchecked.
As m images about show:: some show “Folders” in the list in the left pane, and some show “Archive.” Also check the video I sent Mili that shows what happens.

these are same options, so if you check it in status, it will be checked in config… if you uncheck it in config, it will be unchecked in status as well. It only depends on what action you did last, it does not matter where you checked/unchecked it.
Same goes for any other option in status bar or menus. They are all provided in config because config should have all of them in one place.

Sigh.
If you look at my pics and my video, that is not what happens to me. . and hasn’t been since the first of the new updates.
However, let me ask for the fifth time: What does “View Archive Folders” do? Either it does something different than “View Folders” in Explorer. Or it doesn’t. If it doesn’t, why is it there since there are controls TWO different places (and, in fact, if you look at my pics and video it DOES do something different.
Actually, I will not be checking to see your response. But SOMETHING HERE IS AMISS.

I didnt see the video, Mili is out now… so he will let me know tomorrow and I will check it out… it is nothing to get worked up about though! Thanks Hugh.
