PA2015 - JPEG-Compression in ZIPX
-
Hello!
In the announcement for PA2015 I read something about full read and write support for ZIPX, while earlier versions could read all ZIPX files but create these only without the special JPEG-compression.
So I had hoped that this means PA2015 is also able to compress JPEGs in ZIPX-format as WinZIP can.
When I tested it (using ZIPX / ultra / optimized) the resulting ZIPX was about 10-20% larger than the one created by WinZIP and JPEGs showed no cokpression at all. Selecten WAVpack or PPMed did not change anything.
Did I make something wrong or did I missunderstand something?
Thanks!

Hello, addition to ZIPX was XZ codec, which PA 2015 can now both read and write. Nothing to do with JPEG.
Thanks!

Hello!
Thanks for your reply. So I misunderstood it.
But as JPEG-Compression is almost the only useful part of ZIPX (at least for me) let me ask whether there is any chance this option will be added to PA at some point in the future.
Decompression works already, are there perhaps patent-issues?

PS: Just to clarify: I do not mean the image-compression-algos used in original JPEG-format, but WinZIPs addition to ZIPX, which compresses JPEGs another 10-20% without further quality loss! -

Hello!
Thanks for the reply! I am looking forward to it.
Will your “enhanced version” be compatible with to original ZIPX?

a.borqueit is all new jpeg codec, has nothing to do specifically with zipx… so it would not be compatible with WZ, which is probably fine since not many if any actually support reading of jpeg in zipx.

You are Right, AFAIK PA is the only programme, which supports at least decompression of ZIPXed JPEGs. E.g. WinRAR and 7-Zip don’t support this part of the format.
I hope your solution will offer a better documentation, so it can be used (at least for decompression) in other programmes and on other platforms (Mac, Linux, …).
