PowerArchiver hangs when 7z compressing files named in the form: *.zip.???
-
When 7z compressing a file that has a double file extension where the first extension is “zip”, PowerArchiver v14.06.01 will hang.
Steps to reproduce:
- In Window Explorer rename a random file to: myfile.zip.remove
- Right click on the file and select “Compress to myfile.zip.7z”
- PowerArchiver will hang while compressing the file.
Compression to .zip will work, only to .7z will hang.
I discovered this because the directory I was archiving had a .zip file with a 2nd extension. It had a second extension to send it by e-mail since for example gmail will not allow attaching “.zip” files but it allows “.zip.remove” files.
It is of course rare to have a file named “*.zip.???” and easily circumvented by renaming the file again, but I wanted you to know anyway as it took me a while to figure out which file in my directory was causing the problem.

No need to reboot :), you can kill the PowerArchiver process with the Task Manager too.
Thanks for confirming  -

Thanks for confirming :cool:It messed up my “dwm.exe” process after trying to kill PA’s process.
DWM is like Windows Explorer, that gets messed up and it’s reboot time!
