Powerarchiver-profiles

I am not sure if it is there already (vainly searched for it), but what about:
adding a feature to create specific profiles and add that to the context menu.
for example:
I would create a profile that would:
a. zip a file
b. when doing so, ask for a password
c. define that once the file is being extracted and the pw has been entered
the file should be extracted into a folder named after the filename
(similar to extract to, but when the file is being double-clicked and the pw is entered, it will extract to a folder named after the filenameI would create that does spanning automatically
etc.
Just an idea
-
you can already adjust default shell profiles, did you check that out?
-
Hi,
Here’s a screenshot of the profiles screen where you can configure the options.
You can adjust the selected default Zip profile and configure it with the options you mentioned. In terms of extraction, you can always use the Right Click>Extract to Subfolder option and the archive will be extracted into a folder with the same name as the file.

will there ever be an option to add newly created profiles to context menu ?

Sounds like a feature request :)
Putting it in! -
I was sure I mentioned it many moons ago but I won’t swear to it…:D
But I’ve often thought of how useful it would be to many users out there
that like to create or tweak an existing profile and then have it in their context menu.
I for one would certainly use it on a daily basis.consider it a request then ‘Mili’…:D
Apologies to ‘wulffra’ for ‘Hijacking’ his thread…:(

profiles work already in compress+options window in shell extensions.
How should/would they look like in shell directly?
-
for me . . . it would be that being able to select a custom profile directly from the shell would be nice. Short of that, it would be nice if the system would remember the profile the user standardly employs with a format.
Again, this is not a huge time savings. And if it is very difficult to implement, so be it.
But the first would save three steps; the second, two.
Some of this could be implemented indirectly by allowing copy or move via drag and drop (just as one can copy or move in Explorer, depending on whether one is holding down the Ctrl or Shft key).

couldn’t agree more…I’ve always wanted the option…:)

how would this look/work? Explain it guys :-)
-
There are several options that come to mind. Perhaps the first is the simplest.
In the left column of the available shell extensions include five options for custom profiles. The user then clicks and selects her favorite profile(s) and moves them to the right column, either in the main or sub-menu.
Or you could give the user the ability to define what ZIP means (which profile it uses by default).
In the compression profiles (configuration options), some are listed as ShellEx: _____ and some custom ones do not have the prefix (I tried adding it once, but it did not work, as I recall). So if you have an option to let us add the prefix – or tell us how to add ShellEx options to the registry – we would have what we want.
-
ShellEx ones are the ones that are default for those formats in shell… so if you change ShellEx one for ZIP, that is going to be the setting for Compress to zip.
-
Actually, I was thinking I couldn’t edit those, but I must be misremembering.
I want the ability to select and edit the ShellEx’s so it will include my default 3-4 profiles.
It would also help it the add window remembered not only the format last used, but also the profile last used.
-
Are there still plans for this to go ahead in the near future ?
-
will there ever be an option to add newly created profiles to context menu ?
can you explain this moles? thanks!
-
I believe this is Moles’ request:
Users can now create their own profiles. Very helpful.
Those of us who do this, use those profiles more often than we use the default profiles for different formats.
It would be nice to have the option to add our profiles to the context menu options. Then, rather than having to choose “compress to” and then select the preferred format and profile, we could choose to compress to “MolesZIPX” profile.
That is what I have wanted; I think Moles does too.
Hope I haven’t misspoke for you, Moles.
-
you mean for compress to .zip for instance? Where there are no options to select? Or?
-
Compress to XXXX, where X is a profile, created by the user (new profile), that includes some specified format and any particular settings the user may deem desirable.
Is that what you want Moles?
-
Exactly !
Thanks ‘Socrates’ :) -
Whew. I thought we were on the same page. But I didn’t want to speak out of turn.
I know users have some ability to change existing shell profiles. I would like more. I have have three zip profiles and three 7z profiles. I would like to choose which ones appear as shell options.
Is that doable without too much hassle?
-
it’s an option I’ve always hoped they’s implement…
thanks for the confirmation buddy…:) -
so option in profiles:
x Add to shell extension: Main / Sub
Compress to file.zip
Compress to file.zip (Profile Name)
Compress to file.zipx
Compress to file.7z?
-
yep!
Perfect :) -
expected in the foreseeable future ?
-
whats foreseeable?
-
I meant is it forthcoming anytime soon ?
is it ‘penned’ in for a future release ? -
yes, we will try to make it work, but it has to be major release, not these small maintenance update…
