PA 14.05.03 Program Crash
-
-
Just in the process of downloading it Mole’s give me a couple of minutes and I’ll check.
-
Seems to be closing fine here Moles.
-
Hmmm…
it’s always the case ‘Lux’…
works for some and not others…:Dthanks for testing.
-
Hmmm…
it’s always the case ‘Lux’…
works for some and not others…:DGives Mili something to do. ;)
-
Tested here as well, opened Zip file 3 times and closed it differently each time.
Let me know some more details on how to try and reproduce it and lets take a look. -
This will be hard to track down at present…
it won’t crash when testing with 7z but it crashes 9 times out of 10 when testing random zip files.will do a clean installation and re-test and report back.
-
No change I’m afraid…:(
same results as before and still testing with random zip/7z files.
random crashing with *.rar files also I’ve since found out…
7z seems to be the only stable format so far. -
Problem seems to be attached to my use of the ‘Preview’ window but still only occurs under the zip format.
disabling the preview window seems to stop the crashing…will test further. -
maybe send the zipped settings over to support@?
-
and what are you doing, just opening and preview or?
I tested 4-5 zip files quickly with preview and nothing really happens… i dont think any of the code related to preview has changed recently, but who knows.
-
I just chose random zip/7z files and opened with the preview window active…
each time I closed PA the program crashed when using a zip file…the 7z files however worked fine.if I switched off the preview window PA worked fine and didn’t crash with either the zip or 7z files.
-
just opened, nothing else?
-
this seems to be tied to some setting possibly as i tried with 30+ archives… send that settings file over
-
sent my PA configuration file over to support.
Problem has only surfaced with the latest build…never encountered it before.
-
AV maybe? Scanning the extracted file and PA cant exit properly or something?
-
nope…no av currently on my Windows 8.1 system
-
Mili can try it tomorrow on his Win7
-
I did the same tests in Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Service Pack 1)…encountered no problems whatsoever.
I’m guessing this could be a tricky one to track down…
seems strange the previous build worked perfectly and now this problem occurs.
I haven’t installed any other software in Windows 8.1 since the latest build of PA.
I don’t have any AV installed either. -
got the settings and have been testing extensively on a W8.1 machine with no luck.
Have been trying different combinations of closing and previewing.
How exactly are you closing PowerArchiver? and is a file actively being previewed at the time of closing?if you can, please also send over a sample archive that I can try with as well.
-
Example 1: Closing with this option crashes the program.
Example 2: Closing with this option also crashes the program.
Example 3: Closing with this option and PA closes without any issues.
Regardless whether or not I have a particular file showing in the ‘Preview’ window
PA will still crash under the conditions shown above.*Remember of course this only seems to happen when using the .zip format.
I can still send the sample zip file I created and used for this test if you want
but it’s been happening with any zip file I’ve tested up to now. -
I dropped back to PA 14.05.01 to test out the same scenario
and everything appears to be working fine…no crashes or issues to report.
I will test additional zip files of various sizes. -
Just sent you a private message with a short video showing my experience trying to get it to crash, and I cannot. PA exits without crashing every time
If there are any clues that might pop or if anyone experiences anything similar, please let us know, and thanks for your help!!

Replied to PM
For now I can continue to use latest build without preview enabled
or drop back to earlier version which I know works without any issues.still a little concerned as to why this problem surfaced though.
I guess some problems remain unsolved no matter how hard you look.Any Thoughts….

-
Try with latest release:

Any insight into how you fixed this error team ?
currently testing and up to now hasn’t crashed on me…
many thanks guys for your diligence…:)if it resurfaces you can be sure I will be back…:D
-
well, you better be here on daily basis as always :-)
-
the new version solved my problem with AC (or else there was never a problem, just a botched installation).
-
Sometimes I still like a ‘heads up’ as to what actually caused the issue…:D
I’m always concerned it’s a conflict of programs which in this case it appears it wasn’t.Since installing this update the files now seem to appear faster in the ‘Preview’ window…
in the previous build they seemed to ‘Hang’ momentarily before displaying. -
Wow, if only Microsoft had you guys working for them maybe Windows 8 would have been better than the current train (metro) wreck….

well, they did come far away from 8.00. And this fall update should probably end up being called 9.0 :-).
I mean I bet I downloaded at least 15 GB of of Windows updates since the first official release. Maybe more.
