Can't extract spanned 7zip files
-
I downloaded NeverWinter Nights 2 Platinum torent (http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/8159156/Neverwinter.Nights.2.Platinum.READ.NFO-BLACKCATS) which is all spanned 7zip archives. When I try to open any of the spanned files, I get crc errors. Also PA shows only a few files in the archive.
It was suggested on the torrent site to use 7zip itself, which I did and that worked fine. It also showed way more files. Here’s some screenshots of the two programs:
PowerArchiver:

7zip:

Using latest version of PA 13.03.02
Showing 7-ZipDLL v9.20 for both PowerArchiver and 7zip -
did you try using the last file? Or whatever the file that has different size than rest, thats actually the last one?
thanks!
-
I have not tried that, I will later on tonight when I get home from work :)
-
Okay opened the last file, in this case it’s bkz-mkob.zip.015 and is only 31 MB instead of 262 MB. It does the same thing. PA gives crc errors, 7zip works just fine.

ok… it seems to be spanned ZIP, not 7zip, but spanning has not been done following ZIP standard, probably 7zip doing its own thing but we can add support for it.

Thanks :) -
this seems to be working in Beta 4, please try and let us know.
Thanks!

How do I get the beta?

Sorry for the late response, but it’s till not working. PA Beta still shows only limited amount of files. Here’s a side by side comparison, 7Zip on the left, PA on the right:

Just wondering if you guys are still working on this as it’s still not working.
-
problems… we are trying to figure out what exactly it is doing… it is not spanned zip, but some kind of split zip.
-
Is it appropriate to try to try to fix a problem associated with a Pirate Bay sourced download? I think not.
-
it is 7zip zip spanned archive, so even if you make any kind of similar archive, it will not work…. problem is that it is not a zip multivolume file, but rather split zip just not simply split :-)
-
What I don’t get is that PA is using the same 7zip Dll as 7zip itself, so why does it work differently?
@drteeth, regardless of the source of the files, this is an actual problem that can happen to any archive made this way. I’m not looking for help in extracting copyrighted material (which I have a license for btw from GOG AND amazon, torrents just gave me faster download), I’m reporting a problem I found with PA. :)

these are split ZIP files (by 7zip), not 7zip files… so we dont use 7zip for ZIP, we have our own engine. Problem is that for “splitting” ZIP files, 7zip uses their own logic, not ZIP standard and it is weird, needs more investigation.

Ah I see. Well if it’s a non standard way should you even bother trying to support it?

a lot of things are non-standard, if we only supported “standards”, it would be a lot easier for us but at the same time, half of our support for formats would be gone :-).
so yeah, we will find a way to support it and You should expect us to :-)

Should be fixed in RC2;
