Empty ConeXware folder
-
Whenever I open an archive file, Power Archiver creates an empy folder called ConeXware and several other subfolders of that one in the directory where I am opening the archived file. Is there a way to make it stop doing that? It seems to be related the skins as the subfolder names are as follows:
ConeXware
└ Plugins
└ Secure
└ Skins

Hi Ghendric!
I’ve been trying to reproduce this somehow but no luck…
Could you please provide some details as to how to reproduce it?
What kind of a file are you opening? How are you opening it? Exactly when do these folders appear? Etc.
Anything that will help reproduce it and we will log it in for fixing.
Thanks! -
i vaguely remember someone reporting something similar, years ago, and it was something to do with registry permissions.
Do you have some kind of closed system that you run PA, or is it just run of the mill Windows installation.
And what version of Windows do you use? Thanks!

Its running on Windows 7 64 bit. The registry permissions thing makes sense. The pc is on a network and there are policies in place. It could be that it doesn’t have the permission or the permissions are kind of screwed up. I have been having issues with that lately on the PC… That’s what happens when somebody tries to “fix stuff”…
I am an admin on the pc so I should be able to set the registry permissions. What should I check?

check HKCU\Software\PowerArchiver at least, click on properties and make sure you have full permissions there.
We will start there, and if that doesnt work, I have to talk to dev team to see what could it be. It is nothing obvious, and even for engineers it is not something obvious :-)

I checked that registry key and I have full access. That wasn’t it…

Ok, so we have had another member sends us more info:
The regkey : HKLM\software\microsoft\windowsq\current version\explorer\shell folders\common appdata
is empty (due to policies I presume).check it out… it is: C:\ProgramData for me.
thanks! and thanks to the member sending us info!!!

Mine is set to C:\ProgramData. I’m still getting an empty folder whenever I open an archive file.

Did you check permissions for that registry key, are they readable?

Yes and I have full permissions on them… I am running Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise edition if that helps…

Ok, I noticed something… if I select a bunch of files in windows explorer, right click and create a new archive file, the folder doesn’t get created in that folder. However; if I open an archive file, the folder gets created in the directory of the archive file that I’m opening… So it’s happening on Open and not Create…
