Extract *.pae archive with other archive utilities
-
I want to send encrypted files to a friend who does not own Power Archiver. How can he extract & decipher .pae files with archive utilities such as winzip knowing the password I have used to encrypt my files ?
Is there a way to encrypt files without using .pae proprietary format ? -
Use the zip encrypter. Right click on the file you want to zip. Select zip and optitions. Bottom right corner is the option to creat a zip file with a password.

The shell extension did not work, I could no see the obvious solution !
I have re-installed Power Archiver and it works as explained. Many thanks

basically you are making a aes zip file instaed of a pae file. Aes is the standard for new password encrypted zip archives so it will work with winzip.
PAE files are great cause you can use powerachive to encrypt files that you don’t want archived but stil;l want them encrypted

Is there a way to encrypt files without using .pae proprietary format ?PAE files use PowerArchiver Encryption. These can only be decrypted by PowerArchiver.
As amh209 stated, you should NOT use PAE. Instead use the encryption options of the compression format you are using.
E.g. For Zip compression:
New Zip :- On the Options screen / Zip Encryption Type
You can select PK V2.04g - standard password (not very secure) - All WinZip compatible
Or one of the AES encryption options - needs Winzip 9
See PowerArchiver Help file.Working from shell extension, be sure to select “Compress with Options…”
Better still - convince your friend to use PowerArchiver

Right now you can only decrypt .PAE (PowerArchiver Encrypted) files with PowerArchiver.
We shall work on a DLL to allow other programs (utilities) to decrypt .PAE files in the future - UNPAE.DLL .

And what about the option to create an encrypted SFX file ?
I know it is on a wishlist but i don’t hear much about it lately.

It is still in our wishlist and it will be considered probably as plug-in for next versions…
