Default: Explorer View or Classic View
-
Hello everyone.
What do you think that should be default view in PA 2011?
We want to make it easy for novice users, but remember that most users do not change defaults a lot!
So what is the best default option for View and why?
-
For me Explorer View with folders as the most logical thought is when a user is wanting to search for something to archive or extract having it list by a Hierarchy folder would be ideal.
-
From which point of view?
First starting main window and then open file? Or just double clicking on archive in explorer?

well both, so it is consistent?
Both Starting PA with archive or Starting PA with with no archive open.

I voted Explorer view. I guess this gives the best performance and is the easiest on the eyes.

Explorer View with folders is my choice.
It just seems more logical to me. I can find things in an instant just by looking through the folder view. For ease of use it’s ideal. -
It is interesting that few people change the defaults. I am curious, just how common is this.
For me I have a way that I would do it . . . but I really don’t care; if it wasn’t the way I liked it, one click would change it.
I find this so odd – the first thing I do when I get new software is see how I can customize it.
But if this really is true . . . it is something I will keep in mind when making suggestions.
I can also see how that makes the developer’s job all the more difficult.

80% of PA users use default settings :-).

I would agree with Sir Richard and Luxor.
Exporer with folders is the most useful for navigation and when opening an archive.Same reason I mainly use explorer shell extensions when compressing.

keep in mind this is not just opening the archive, it is when opening PA without archive too.

That wouldnt be a problem, as mentioned if the user opens PA they will visualy have an index of their current folder hierarchy and additional drives without having to press a button.

Yes, as I implied - opening PA (without archive) would then match a Windows Explorer view; users don’t have to “learn” any navigation via buttons etc.
