After using PA for a few years now I have found a couple of rather nasty little bugs where 7zips are concerned. Well I think they are annoying, and I don’t know if any of you have come across this either.

Number 1:

Under Windows Vista and PA version 10.20.02, should you have PowerArchiver Queue switched off, when you go to “New Archive” and type the name in, and select “.7z” on the dropdown and press ok, the dialog comes up to add files. When you go to options you will see only options for standard .zip files, (for example, the ultra compression option is missing and the 7zip default profile is missing). When files are saved they come out as zips (even though you selected .7z). To be able to save as .7z you need to turn on the queue in the options, close and restart PA for the 7zip options to be there.

Also under Windows Vista and PA 10.20.02 if you attempt to create a .7z archive and place a full stop (.) anywhere in it’s name, it will either a) lose the options for 7zip or b) take you to the dialog box to queue files. When this happens and you queue some files, this results in the task completing but the archive you created is completely missing. Basically if you have a full stop in the name you are wasting time because the archive isn’t even saving.

Also I noticed using the .7z ultra compression it can at times completely lock a system up. Might just be my spec though :)

Oh apart from that, works great :)

Never seen this, but it is very memory hungry.
How many files/what is size of data ?
How much ram do you have?

I have confirmed bug 1 on XP SP2. above. It only occurs when “Enable PowerArchiver Queue” is not ticked in Options / Configuration / Queue / General.

I also noticed another bug. When I untick “Enable PowerArchiver Queue” and click the OK button the PowerArchiver Starter program closes down even if “Start PowerArchiver Starter when my computer starts” is still ticked.

Confirmed on XP SP2. Create 7z archive called junk.junk then options for ZIP appear in Add File dialog.
