    News/Update on PowerArchiver/Connexion in 2024
    TheAndyMacT

Hi everyone, some good news about PowerArchiver… I’ve managed to get in touch with the original developer of PowerArchiver, Ivan Petrovic, and he has confirmed that the product is not dead or abandoned, in fact it is still very much alive! There has been a hiatus over the past months for various reasons, but that we should expect to see stuff coming through in the coming months (hopefully the next 2 months).

BETA PowerArchive 22.00.11 - Windows 11 Context Menu duplicated/additional tier
    TheAndyMacT

The Windows 11 context menu for PowerArchiver on normal files (to be compressed, etc.) is now showing multiple tiers with two identical menus. See attached captures of the issue:

Zip extraction from windows 11 by windows
    D

Basically I used powerarchiver context menus to zip up a folder then i used windows 11 own built in zip extractor via the context menu to extract all and this is where it throw up a fault. , I’m using windows 11 .

The file that was a problem in the zip that windows 11 could not extract was iva “babe” cotton.jpg
I know it has non standard quotes in it.

However I had winrar on the computer and tried the exact same method with their context menu compress to zip and then I extracted the file with windows own extract all context menu and it had no problems. This indicates that powerarchiver is doing something different with iva “babe” cotton.jpg compressing to zip.

Then I changed iva “babe” cotton.jpg to iva babe cotton.jpg and compressed it with powerarchiver and then tried it with windows 11 extract all and had no problems. It looks like powerarchiver is doing something to that one file that has quotes in it.

Please note that powerarchiver extracted both zip files with no problems, only windows built in zip extraction had the fault. Reason I’m letting people know in case they send zip files with special characters in files names to people who do not have powerarchiver.

When will a fix be implemented?

Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

PA2023 22.00.09 trying to delete a directory from a tar file.
    Brian GregoryB

I had a large .tar file (a backed up WSL) and I want to delete a few directories and their contents from it using PA2023.
PA just destroys the whole archive as soon as I try to delete a directory, leaving it in a state where PA2023 won’t even open it any more.
I tried several times and also tried compressing it to .tar.xz instead - same result.

This should either actually work, or it should say operation not supported and do nothing.

    PA 2023 Toolbox - 22.00.09 - Remove archive encryption
    PA_FanP

    Win 11 64 bit

I have some archives which have been encrypted, using the encrypt option either in pbs or when interactively creating a zip. When I open these, and look at files, I am asked for passwords, which I know, and then can view items or decrypt the files in the archive (tools>decrypt files).

However, when I use the Actions>Remove Archive Encryption (whether using the same zip or asking to write another), the routine shows progress bar to the end, but then just hangs i.e. “OK” never activates. All process information shows this stalled/hanging.

What can I do to sort this out?

Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !

I’m not sure if I’m suppose to enter a support ticket somehow, or post here.

I’ve owned PA for a very long time now. have never had an issue i needed support for. Was an avid winzip fan until you came along. excellent product!

OK, this is something that’s really bugging me. I put all my ISO images on a networked drive I have on my home file server. I do this because my storage drives are in a RAID5 on the server. with a gigabit connection it’s fast enough.

But i have recently found a problem. In Windows 7 when I right click an ISO then choose ‘mount as virtual drive’, it appears to go through the process. when i’m done, it says it failed. no error code, or explanation of why.

if I copy that ISO to my local desktop or other local drive, it mounts without a problem.

Is this a known issue, or is there a fix? I searched but didn’t find much.

Bonus question: Is there a reasonable way to unmount an ISO without having to go through a ridiculous process including launching power archiver then weeding through the menus to do so? if there’s a right click and ‘mount’ shouldn’t there be a right click then ‘unmount’? i mean come on?

For Unmount, if you pin PA to the taskbar, you will be able to unmount easily as unmount is one of the options in the PA jumplist ;-).

Do you have full access to that iso file? Maybe an permissions issue?

        thanks!

ahh thanks. pinned it to the start menu actually. dont want it on the task bar because 99% of my usage is context menus.

but it’s not permissions issues on the mount me thinks. i’ve got full control, and ownership

So few questions to help us troubleshoot:

            • whats the name of the share?
            • how are you accessing it?
            • Whats the name of the iso (or is renaming it to 1.iso helping?)
            • Does it work if you move it to local drive and then try?

            thanks!

Hi there, and thanks for the response.

You just missed the local drive part, I mentioned in my first post that if I copy the file to my local drive it works fine. it’s ONLY on the network i have the problem.

Here’s how i’m running. I have a home network that is running from a Windows 2008 SBS machine. It uses a domain of course, and the pc in question is joined to the domain. The folder I’m using is remote because I use redirected folder. So ‘my documents’ is actually \MYSERVERNAME\RedirectedFolders\jt\My Documents\filename.iso

Changing the name doesn’t help FYI I just tried it.

              Does that help?

Did anything ever come of this?

I’m trying out the Virtual Drive features and have run into the same problem – I can’t mount an ISO image from a network drive.

It works to copy to a local drive and then mount, but I really don’t want to do this.

                  Any fixes for this?

It’s still logged into our system.
The dev team is working on some new features for PA 2012 at the moment…I’m expecting them to look at previous bugs after that and hopefully find a fix (or a solution) in PA 2012.

Very valid point! something i have mentioned and thought about when mounting and unmounting.
However, i never thought it as a bug more an anoyance.

I would like to see a gadget on windows 7 and 8 for PowerArchiver that allows the user to drag and drop ISO’s or archives onto it and it acts on the users settings.

So if i droped an ISO on it it would mount as disk then i could click a button on the gadget of such would unmount it.

But the argument about gadgets were it would drill into development time, and many windows users dont use gadgets.

there is a right click and unmount but you have to right click on an icon and the option to do so will present itself.

I right clicked on a desktop icon and the option was in the PA context menu…see screenshot.

you may think it a little clumsy but it does work.

yer but that takes you to another window, then you have to select the ISO that you want to demount.

What would be good is if it listed those currently mounted ISO’s within that Shell.

But, again it doesnt bother me as a user. just one of them niggles.

I agree Richard…it isn’t perfect but before this I had to use another program to perform the task.
it’s a task I use often ‘mounting an iso file’ but I’ve found myself using it less and less based simply
on it’s slightly ‘clunky’ design…this isn’t to say the PA team didn’t do a decent job giving us the option in the first place…:)

PA’s ISO Mounting and demounting is used by me every day.

Last night i watched a DVD that was mounted from PowerArchiver. I mount Blueray’s and installation disks. all using powerarchiver.

And considering that they Disc support from PowerArchiver is technically fairly new to the application in that it hasnt changed much since release it does a dam good job.

It’s only little niggles , nothing more. :)

it is not that simple… PA allows you to right click and unmount from anywhere… if it was only on specific iso, then you would also have to take steps to find that iso in windows explorer which is also not going to be super fast.

p.s. we cant have it mounted from the network, it is limitation. has to be locally.
