File size explosion
-
-
what happens when extracting? I dont think file itself is big, it just got wrong filesize….
thanks
-
It takes about 5 minutes to extract and after that nothing happens…
-
what version of PA did you use? thanks
-
PA version 10.10.10
-
weird… can you try compressing it again and seeing if it happens this time as well?
-
Sorry :( file already deleted… but with a bit of luck I can find it in an old backup.
I’ll try soon to recover and compress it alone in 7zip format. -
ok, thanks
-
File recovered.
Compressing the file alone: file size compressed is ok.
Compressing the whole directory: another file exploded in size…
Tried to extract the big file: extraction successful and right size of it (this time). -
Tried version 10.10.13 and problem persists.
-
Hi,
Please check with 10.11 release:
http://www.powerarchiver.com/test/release10/powarc1011.exeAnd let us know if it works fine.
thank you!
-
Not fixed :-(
-
so now extraction works, just the size is wrong?
-
The extraction now works :)
After 5 minutes of extraction the file has been recovered. Thanks.
Recompressing the folder with 7zip the resulting file has inside one file exploded in size but not the same of the first time. -
I totally forgot, but this was not a bug. When archives are solid there is no way to determine correct packed for each file because many files are respresented as single solid blocks. In this case this file is just part of one single block that has “this” packed size.
This is same for RAR and 7-ZIP solid archives - unfortunatelly there is no way to get packed size correctly.
But we are showing packed size because sometimes expert users can see which files are combined in same solid block. Also packed size is correct when archive is not solid.
-
Mmmm, I don’t remember to have chosen to do a solid one when I did the archive.
Do PA do solid archives when I select to compress a directory, in 7-zip format, with the right click menu? -
Yes, by default, PA uses solid compression. The results with the solid compression are usually better when having similar types of files…
