PA 2010 11.60.26 Creates invalid ZIP with large files

Hi,
Just updated to the latest version of PA but there is (still) a MAJOR problem with ZIP’ing large files.
When I ZIP a SQL Database BAK file of 5.581.246 KB using the following zip settings:
- Format: ZIP
- Action: Add(and replace files)
- Method: Deflate(.ZIP, Compatible)
- Compression: Normal ( or better )
PA will create a ZIP archive with a file size of 977.678 KB but when the ZIP archive is opened no files are listed. Selecting the ‘Extract to xxxx’ menu option will create an empty folder. If I use the standard Windows XP unzip functionality I get the message ’ The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted’.
If I first create a archive with a smaller file and then add a the BAK file both files are listed but the BAK file has ratio of 0 and packed of 00.

hi - how do you mean still - when did you first notice this issue? Are you creating files via Main PA or shell interface, or both?

maybe try some other file 5 GB in size… does that work?
then try using 7zip compression - you can use fastest method (dont store it though), and does work?

Hi,
I first noticed it in version 11.60.23. ( whether the bug is present in earlier versions I do not know… ).
I tested both the ‘Compress with options…’, ‘Compress to xxxx.zip’ shell menu options and ‘New archive’ from the main PA window. Same result.
When opening the Archive properties window the archive is listed with File size: 933.557.976 bytes and Files in archive: 0.
The problem also occurs on a second machine ( both running Windows XP SP3+latest patches )…

i have tried around 10 different files over 4 GB on 3 different computers, all worked fine.
It has to be a bit more specific than that.
Let me know if you can try the what i wrote above, that would help!

Hi,
The problem occured with several SQL BAK - snapshots of the same DB - files. All around 5 GB.
It works fine with 7ZIP compression.

Just some additional info:
The disk holding the configured temporary folder has more than 100 GB free; the disk containing the ZIP archive has more than 68 GB free….
Windows XP SP3 32 bit with 4 GB mem.

do you mind sending us your reg file, maybe we can find something interesting there.
export HKCU\Software\PowerArchiver to .reg file and then zip it and then send it to support @ conexware . com.
we will then try with your settings.

some non .bak file… anything else. even zipped multiple files/folder from program files folder, into single file and then compressed again to try to reproduce it.

Tested it with a virtual image disk image file ( file size: 5.216.731.136 bytes ) creates archive with a size of (1.868.354.280 bytes….and with 0 files…

no need to send the reg, i think we managed to reproduce it… waiting for engineers to check it out.

Running native XP SP3 32 Bit on both systems……( but with VmWare workstation v6.5.3 build 185404 installed on both systems but with no running instance: thus no active shared folders between host en guest OS )

Just did a test when running XP in Safe mode……same error…

FYI, files created were created properly, problem was with reading files, where our relativly new autodetection routine did not recognize some files as zips (in this example exactly), even if they were.

But that doesn’t explain why the standard Windows XP UNZIP functionalitiy complains about an invalid/corrupt ZIP file( see first message )… does it ?

not sure that windows xp supports large zips properly, i believe it was added in Vista.

It FIXED the problem. Tested it with the BAK and VmWare image and both were now OK.
