Curious hang while selecting folder in creating a backup-script
-
I’ve a curious problem on my system with PowerArchiver v11.50.61 and higher.
When selecting a folder, e.g. a folder for the destination media or selecting a folder to add to the backup, the system hangs while displaying the folder selector box. Then I can’t shutdown “PABackup.exe” with the task manager. Even shutting down the system doesn’t work anymore and I have to use to power switch to turn off the system.Because I didn’t have this problem on earlier versions, I installed older versions of Power Archiver to see from which version this problem happens. Up till version v11.50.49 RC2 I don’t have any problems, but with versions v11.50.61 & v11.60.08, Power Archive Backup hangs when selecting the folder.
I’ve a dual boot system with Windows XP and Vista Ultimate. It happens in both XP and Vista. But on another system with only Windows XP, it works perfectly.
So it seems a problem on a specific system configuration (maybe because I have a dual boot system). I think it is related with the “Recycle Bin” because when the “folder selecting” dialogbox is show, all the icons are shown, but the “recycle bin” icon stays blank. When I then go to Windows Explorer, I can select every folder I want, but if I click on the “Recylce Bin”, Windows Explorer hangs too. When PABackup is not selecting a folder, I can select the “Recycle Bin” in Windows Explorer without any problems.I understand this problem might be difficult to reproduce because it only happens on a specific system configuration. It happens on my dual boot system and not on another system. But it is curious to me because older versions of PA work on my system and the latest not. So I wonder if you have changed something to the folder selection code after version 11.50.49?
Thanks and regards,
Robert

I got the chance to test it on another dual boot XP/Vista system and there it works perfectly.
So it seems a curious fluke of my system (not the windows installation itself because it happens in both XP and Vista). I ran checkdisk but it didn’t found any errors on my partitions.Very strange. I will be using PA v11.50.29 for now until I have time to reinstall my system. Maybe that helps.

Robert,
please check with version 11.60.10 that has just been released and let us know if it is still the same.
thanks!

Thanks for the quick response.
But unfortunately v11.60.10 still hangs when selecting a folder. So I’m back to v11.50.49 again.Since I can’t reproduce this problem on other machines, it might be some problem specific to my Windows installation. So don’t spend too much time on this problem until I’ve found a way to reproduce it on other machines. But it is strange that it only hangs on v11.60.x and not on earlier versions.
Thanks and regards,
Robert

Robert,
there has been an update to PowerArchiver backup in RC3 version that has been updated today.
You need to go to download page and get Preview version and try this again.
One of the updates was this issue with folders, even if we could not reproduce it, we changed the way selection of folders works internally - now it works exactly the same as in Windows Explorer, which has its positives and negatives, postive should be that it should not have some weird bugs like this.
thanks!

I fear I am missing your instructions.
The one on the download page has the same date and the same number.
Is that the one we should download?
Is there a separate preview page?
