    Windows 11 Shell Extension crash
    W
    Copied the Take Command shortcut, changed Target to be wt.exe -p “Take Command” and saved it. Right-clicked to get to properties and Explorer crashed. (wt.exe is the Microsoft Terminal program, which I have installed from the Microsoft Store.) The Target path had changed to: C:\Users{username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\wt.exe -p “Take Command” Created a new shortcut in a Start Menu folder and set the command line to the same, and it crashed the same. Created a new shortcut and set the command line to mspaint.exe (also a Windows Store app) and Explorer crashed on right-click on the shortcut. It appears PowerArchiver shell extensions doesn’t handle Windows Store apps in shortcuts properly. Perhaps it needs better defensive coding around checking the Target of shortcuts, or just ignoring shortcuts altogether. Running PA 22.00.11 on Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.6584

    Affected by winrar/.rar vulnerability?

    Was Power Archiver affected by the WinRAR/.rar vulnerability discovered by ESET researchers recently? Not sure if PA is using their libraries for extraction.

    Ultimate zip was made by powerarchiver
    D
    From google search AI Overview Yes, that’s correct. UltimateZip was indeed a product of the same company that developed PowerArchiver, and it was essentially a rebranded version of PowerArchiver. It was discontinued and replaced by PowerArchiver.

    News/Update on PowerArchiver/Connexion in 2024
    TheAndyMacT
    Hi everyone, some good news about PowerArchiver… I’ve managed to get in touch with the original developer of PowerArchiver, Ivan Petrovic, and he has confirmed that the product is not dead or abandoned, in fact it is still very much alive! There has been a hiatus over the past months for various reasons, but that we should expect to see stuff coming through in the coming months (hopefully the next 2 months).

    Zip extraction from windows 11 by windows
    D
    Basically I used powerarchiver context menus to zip up a folder then i used windows 11 own built in zip extractor via the context menu to extract all and this is where it throw up a fault. , I’m using windows 11 . The file that was a problem in the zip that windows 11 could not extract was iva “babe” cotton.jpg I know it has non standard quotes in it. However I had winrar on the computer and tried the exact same method with their context menu compress to zip and then I extracted the file with windows own extract all context menu and it had no problems. This indicates that powerarchiver is doing something different with iva “babe” cotton.jpg compressing to zip. Then I changed iva “babe” cotton.jpg to iva babe cotton.jpg and compressed it with powerarchiver and then tried it with windows 11 extract all and had no problems. It looks like powerarchiver is doing something to that one file that has quotes in it. Please note that powerarchiver extracted both zip files with no problems, only windows built in zip extraction had the fault. Reason I’m letting people know in case they send zip files with special characters in files names to people who do not have powerarchiver. When will a fix be implemented?

    PA2023 22.00.09 trying to delete a directory from a tar file.
    Brian GregoryB
    I had a large .tar file (a backed up WSL) and I want to delete a few directories and their contents from it using PA2023. PA just destroys the whole archive as soon as I try to delete a directory, leaving it in a state where PA2023 won’t even open it any more. I tried several times and also tried compressing it to .tar.xz instead - same result. This should either actually work, or it should say operation not supported and do nothing.

      Getting the very same problem since some pa2010 releases…opening any archive, small or big makes no difference, PA hangs for some seconds, and on a Core i7 965 with 12gb of ram (Vista 64 Ultimate sp1)!
      Deleting the registry key, or even resetting to default options I can get rid of the problem and archives open instantly again, but the problem comes back once I choose the Explorer with Folders view, with Modern Interface on.
      Hope you can track this down, as having to wait 4-5 secs even for the smallest archives makes using the program a real pain. :\

        that seems like very different problem - it might be related to your startup folder, change startup folder to something that has less files inside and then let me know).

          Looks like setting “Startup location” to a fixed folder (my Documents folder for me) solved the issue (was set on “Last open Archive” before).
          Double clicking on whatever Archive now makes PA instantly open it like it should. Setting the option back to Last open Archive, PA starts to hang again when opening Archives double clicking in Explorer.

            @spwolf:

            you have latest version right? Or older one? Check in Help> About, what version you have.

            How many files/folders are there in folder where startup is slow?

            Version 11.50.49

            Just tested with a folder containing just 2 archives…still hangs if option is set to “last open archive”.
            Not a great issue for me as I have no need to have it on…happy I found a way to get rid of it.

              how many files in that folder? (startup one?).

              There has to be something in that startup folder thats causing it…

              Can’t get what you’re meaning with “startup folder”, I’m sorry. I’m getting this with every archive, independently of the folder it’s stored in and of the number of files which are in that folder. Just having one folder with just 1 archive I get the hang when double clicking on it to open it with PA…

                When the problem is there, PA hangs 5-6secs before opening Archives. When it isn’t there, PA opens Archives almost instantly (depending on how big they are).
                The hang is there if I start PA directly too…that means, not double clicking on an Archive but just starting the program. And just having one startup folder which doesn’t include more than 4 small zip Archives (max. 1.4mb). Like I said, forcing PA to a fixed startup folder looks to solve the problem, no idea on what it’s trying to do with the other option set.
                My AV program is Avast…don’t think this could be it, as I never had this problem till maybe a pair of months ago (maybe even less)…if that would be the problem, then it would be there having one fixed startup folder, or?

                  @spwolf:

                  can you please disable Avast temporary and try again… PA scans files when it starts, AV could be blocking access until it scans them.

                  Disabled all Avast resident protection modules…no difference noticed.

                    hm, maybe send us your PA reg key to support at conexware . com

                    HKCU\Software\PowerArchiver and zip it before sending.

                    That will help us replicate this exactly.

                    thanks!

                      @spwolf:

                      Got it… nothing special we could see from that.

                      Lets check this.

                      Create folder C:\1.
                      Copy those zip files that you have in folder thats slowing down PA startup to C:\1. Now set PA to start in C:\1.

                      Is it slower now as well? If it is slower, remove file by file from C:\1 and see if you can pin point what exactly is slowing it down.

                      Doesnt that make sense?

                      thanks

                      Tried this…I get the hang if I set PA to startup on that folder and if I double click on Archives stored in that Folder (I put 2 very small Archives into it).
                      What I noticed is that I seem to get the very same hang while browsing to that Folder while setting it in PA options, at the exact moment when I click on the “Computer” icon (to make my drives show up). That doesn’t occur with any other application I have on my PC.
                      The funny thing is that if I move my Archives to the default folder “My Documents”, I don’t get the hang (keeping PA set to a fixed startup folder).

                        I turn it on and off several times each day.
