Power Archiver Blocking Download
-
I run Firefox 3.0 on WinXP. I have down loaded scores of programs and they always go to my Firefox download folder from which point I either install them or store them.
Today every time I have tried to download a program I get a screen from Power Archiver asking something about a read-only attribute?
I can;t find my new programs in the Firefox download folder.
To be honest……I have no idea what Power Archive is for, how I can use it or if I really need it. Do I need to uninstall it in order to download any new programs or can I just get it to stop interfering.
Thanks

You have 5 posts in this forum asking about different things for PA, from last few years.
How can you not know what PA is for? I am confused :-).
PA does not interfeer with Firefox on its own, maybe you somehow set it up so Firefox opens files with PowerArchiver automatically instead of saving them to download folder. Did you install any plugins for Firefox or changed any options?
It is really more about Firefox, you should search on internet on how to set it up if something went wrong.
thanks!

Thanks for your reply.
My memory is going……
I actually tried to register for this forum without realizing that I was already a member!I will try the Firefox forum to solve this problem.
I would however appreciate finding a tutorial that explains Power Archivers functions.
Thanks

there is help inside PA, just click on F1 or help button in every window.
PA is here to create and extract archives (zip, rar, 7zip, etc), among many other things.
It could be that PA is somehow set in Firefox to open downloaded files automatically - my firefox does not do that, so it had to be set manually somehow. It has to be some setting inside Firefox as PA itself does not do that.
thanks!

Many Thanks for your help.
I found the the Applications list, unfortunately Compressed is not in the list. Do you know how I can create this option?
No one answered on the Firefox forum so I may be stuck with PA responding to all my compressed downloads.
Firstly I am asked if I want to remove the read-only attribute. Do I say yes or no?
I would simply like all my compressed files to go to my Firefox Download folder in their compressed format.
Is their a simple way for me to tell PA to do this?
Thanks again

Unfortunately, I’m no Firefox expert (and I’m not at a machine with firefox on it right now…). As a guess, take a look near the end of the list to see if there is an entry for ZIP files instead of the “Compressed” files entry.

It will be under “PowerArchiver …”.
Looking through that, it seems that you or someone else set PA to open downloads, which is why they are not being saved. Keep in mind this is all Firefox, it has nothing to do with PA itself. So change setting to “Always ask” and it should work as before…

Please tell me what to do when the PA windows opens.

All I want is for it to place the incoming file intact (zipped) at some place that I can find it>please look at my reply above. Your Firefox is not configured properly, you need to solve this in Firefox. PA has nothing to do with it.
Firefox is not saving your file, it is sending it to temp folder and opening it in PA.
