.REP File Association Problems

Hello.
We use a program called Business Objects which creates business reports with the extension .rep which are emailed out to staff within a zip file.
Upon installing power archiver 9.5.1 it takes the association of the .rep file away thinking that it is an archive type file.
What archive program creates .REP files ?
I have managed to take back file association through windows file properties “open with” however there is still the issue.
When the .rep files are contained within the zip, the icons on the files appear as Business Objects. But when you double click on them power archiver does not look to the windows extensions list and tries to open the .rep report files as archives, which fails saying the file is corrupt. As of course its not a valid archive as they are report files which PA thinks are an archive.
How can we get these files to open from within the zip with the correct program. I’m do not want to retrain/change work procedures for about 50 users spread accross the region just because Power Archiver gets itself in a jam :confused: .
Any help or practical work around would be appreciated.

As a workaround, use the PowerArchiver {View} option. When you activate the option {Options : Configuration : Miscellaneous : “Prompt when view button is pressed”} This allows you to choose “Open with Associated Progam”.

Thanks Terry. I already had that set, and it does show busobj.exe (the Buiness Objects executable) in the open with list. However if you click on it using the open with method it still returns the same error as I mentioned above.
“PowerArchive can not open this file. It does not appear to be a vaild archive. Note: check the files is not in use. If you are trying to open an EXE file, it may be corrupt or is not in the proper format. If you are trying to open a multi-volume ZIP archive, please open the last file of the set.”
Why did PowerArchiver add the .REP file type in the first place ? One I can’t find any references to .rep archives in the first place and two it makes my 50 or so copies of PA that I paid for useless as I can’t roll it out to my users.

Are we talking about the same thing? The PowerArchiver View dialogue does not have an “open with list”? It shows “View Using…” and a “View” button to activate.
Highlight the file in the PowerArchiver window and then use the Toolbar button “View”.

If you disable the REP association in PowerArchiver and use your Buiness Objects executable to reapply its own association for REP files, it should work - are you saying it doesn’t.
I think that when installing/upgrading PA, you can use the options:
- Associate PowerArchiver with recommended formats
- Show configuration options for first installations
By de-activating the first and activating the second, the “Options/Configuration/File Formats” can be used to deactivate the PA - REP association (and any others you wish) at first run.
Note: I cannot check for real REP files, but this does work with a TXT file I renamed as REP and then associated with my text editor, for example.
Note: I did a Windows reboot to ensure the associations (in registry) were updated/reloaded correctly. -
.rep are used as game files for some games, and are compressed zip archives, which is why that happens.
