Vista 5600 (RC1)
-
PA doesn’t work in this version either. Seems like they’ve kept the application model.
Also, RC1 is a ‘locked’ version of Vista build. Application model will not change any more so if you make it compatible for RC1 it will live up to release. -
I have the same problem. Seems like MS broke something in RC1

5600 is nice, isnt it? Quite nice.
-
Yes it is.
-
i’m using it as my primary os on my desktop and about half time on my laptop with no problems. (still using delphi 6 at work. doesn’t work so well in vista :))
-
I’m also using it as a primary OS as I just can’t get used back to XP :D
Btw, any fix on the horizon? Must be some small problem for PA to crash.
Also, I like the new Office interface, but Outlook HTML rendering seems to be broken.
Also it downloads images every damn time instead of saving those into the mail itself. -

Should be fixed soon though. We will update 9.6x when that happens.

Why don’t you use your own protection instead of that silly thing. Cracks are anyway all over the Internet…
You loose more on incompatibility than you gain on protection…
Who wants to buy PA will do so anyway. Who doesn’t will use a keygen anyway.

there are no keygens :-). Thats the whole point… with “our” protection, there were around 500 of them :-).

Hmm. I would expect a more underground knowledge from a developer. :)
Well, just xxx.xxx:) -

Well, just xxx.xxx :)i still didnt find any keygens for PA2006… Just serials. There is an big difference there.

In any case, we should have support months before Vista is officially released.
thanks,

Which protection toolkit do you use?

Can’t wait till PA works in RC1 but I will miss the nice Zip icons MS made for archive files. Anyway to use PA and keep those?

sure - you can take them and use PA skins to set them as PA icons - quite easy, just skinning info on this website.
-
Thanks for the info. One more thing: I noticed that if you place a file within an archive, that Vista will prompt you to either cancel or overwrite. With PA, it inserts the new file, but also leaves the original file there too. Can PA be configured to overwrite the old files?

that depends on the path saved - if files have same path, it will be overwriten, if they dont - they it wont.
check archive in explorer view in PA in case you dont understand what I mean…
thanks,

OK, I’ve just installed the ‘vista ready’ 9.63 powerarchiver which does not work so I then uninstalled it but vista now does not know how to open standard zip files. Any ideas on getting that working?

right click on any file and select Send to> Compressed folder. I think thats what it is called.
Windows will then ask you if you want to re-associate with Compressed Folders.
-
I’m afraid that did not work any other ideas?

did it actually ask you for the re-association? It just didnt work? Or?
-
Sorry should have made that clearer. I Right Clicked and sent a file to a compressed folder. The zip was created succesfully but I was not prompted about the association. Attempting to open the file prompts for you to choose a program to associate but it’s the os i’m trying to reassociate. Is there a version on the horizon that works with rc1?

Maybe I can create an .reg file for you to re-associate.
As to the Vista, YES, soon, I hope.
thanks,

Just choose Windows ‘explorer.exe’ as the program in ‘file association’ and check 'always use this program.
-
thanks, I can now double click and open a zip again. Now if i can just get the compressed folder icon back…

i have to find clean Vista installation, and when I do, I will attach an registry script that will do that…

Why does PA 2004 work but PA 2006 doesn’t?
Suppose its a bit like Nero in that way Nero 6.6.0.6 worked but the new 7 one didn’t.
Ok yes power archiver 2004 works fully on windows vista, you can download it here:
http://download.oldversion.com/powarc926.exe
Yes its a retail copy, no it does not have keygen, you can use trial. May be a slow download tho.
-
They use a component that doesnt work in Vista yet. They are waiting for a new version.

I’m a registered user of PA 2006 is there any way i can get hold of a key for PA 2004 as I am now using it on Vista RC1?
-
email us at support so we can give you reg number as well OR if you purchased PA 2004 or before, you can login to your account and you will still be able to get PA 2004 from there.
thanks,
