Password not working for PAE
-
I’m having problems accessing my encrypted files. It keeps telling me that the password I’ve entered is invalid, and I’m 100% sure that it’s not!
I’ve tried typing it with caps lock on, num lock, pressing enter, clicking OK, etc. but nothing is working! It’s also really frustrating that it opens the file first and then checks the password, so I have to wait 15 minutes each time just to see if the password is right or not.
I think something really wierd is going on though, because the same thing happened to some other files of mine, and I kept re-entering the same password over and over until finally one of the times the password worked, and from then on all of the passwords worked.
I just can’t figure out what’s going on. I would really appreciate any help on this. Thanks a lot.

there is no reason for password to work once and then doesnt work. Where did you save those .pae files?

what version of pa doid you create the file in
try an ealier version of pa if it works there then it is a problem with pa
but i dout it. tested function and i can not get it to fail

I use PAE files on a fairly regualr bases and have yet to have a problem with them not accepting the password. I’ve encrypted two files just today. I checked and everything decrypted fine. So just as davidsplash, I cannot get it to fail either.

Thanks for the help guys. I made a test file and encrypted it and I was able to open it and everything worked fine. But when I go back to the files that I actually want to open it never accepts the password.
I’m going to take David’s advice though. I encrypted them a while back in an older version, so I’m going to try to download an older version and see if I can open them with it.
And I’ll keep trying whatever else I can think of.

where did you save the files? hard disk or cd?

I saved the files in a folder on my hard drive.
And I also realized that in the download section there are no older versions, so I can’t try that out. But I don’t think that is the real problem. It’s something else that I can’t figure out.
There is one file that’s relatively smaller than the other huge ones in my folder. I had already extracted the files in it, so I didn’t really need to get it open again, but I wanted to see what would work to get it open and then apply that method to the bigger files (since with the small one I only need to wait a couple minutes to see if it accepts my password).
So I entered the password a few times and it said incorrect. And then on somewhere around the fourth time it accepted the password and opened it. But I didn’t do anything different that fourth time! That’s what’s so wierd about what’s going on.
So anyway, I guess I need to just keep trying over and over with the big ones, and hopefully one of the times it will “catch”.
