Crash with Windows Vista beta 2

Hello !
I just want to notice that Powerarchiver don’t works with Windows Vista Beta 2 (may 2006 build).
Powerarchiver start and there is a crash quickly so that we can’t use PA on this OS.If you want i can give you more precision. :)

PowerArchiver 2006 does not work on Vista at this point… it will in the future.

Thanks for the reply, spwolf–- any timeframe for a Vista compatibility update? PowerArchiver is one of the deal-breaker apps for me— it has to work or I won’t be able to switch to Vista as soon as I’d like (which would be now :) )

A: At this point, PowerArchiver 2006 does not work in Windows Vista. Problem is that our registration system does not support Windows Vista. Our component supplier is working on the support at this time. As soon as they implement support, we will update PowerArchiver 2006 so it works with Microsoft Vista. We plan to implement Microsoft Vista support months before Microsoft Vista officially ships.

Well, until the next build, which will break it again, hehehe.
Now if I can just get my pda to sync I can go Vista all the way…

i doubt it will break since it was Microsoft’s effort to make it work… I am quite suprised at the effort they have shown to make Vista compatible with popular apps. Big kudos to them.

not necessarily on PA alone, but on protection we use, yes. And they have been contacting us about Vista for past year too.
As I said, I am pretty impressed with their effort on Vista overall. They seem to be making sure all popular apps work great.

Yeah, I was just kidding about Microsoft breaking compatibility later.
I’m still a little disappointed that Vista isn’t quite the great leap forward a lot of people were expecting (including myself) since it will be about five years since the release of XP by the time Vista ships.
Still, I am definitely enjoying the beta releases and so far the experience for me has been better than around this time in XP’s beta cycle.
Definitely kudos to Microsoft for the continued work on compatibility… and kudos to the PowerArchiver developers for being proactive in working on Vista compatibility and being so responsive to the user base. Not every developer will even go so far as to give their customers any feedback or timeframes when the question of Vista drivers or compatibility comes up.

it looks fine. Due to not having too much time, I did not get to test it until this latest release 5472.
It seems like they made XP a bit sleeker, and easier to use for newbies.
It is an good step forward, especially if you take it in account together with IE 7 and MS Office 2007.
On the other hand, I also see XP being used in the decade ahead of us…

When I was bemoaning that PowerArchiver wouldn’t run on the previous builds of Vista and I wouldn’t switch to Vista until it did, a number of people reminded me that there were a lot of other compression/decompression-type programs out there… I said yes, there are, but PA is the best and I don’t like to settle for less.
Shameless plug? Maybe. The truth? Definitely.
I have about 10 core apps I can’t live without and now that the registration system in PA is working out I’m just waiting patiently for my pda to be able to sync and I’m golden. Still no driver for my scanner from HP, but that’s not a deal-breaker…

Apperantly a lot of people are complaining about speed, but for me 5472 works quite fast?

Each new build of Vista has (to me, anyhow) improved in speed quite a bit. The pre-beta 2 builds were sluggish, but the interface responsiveness has improved drastically since then. I have a reasonably decent system (Athlon fx-57, 2 gigs of RAM, geforce 7900gtx, etc) but it even runs well on my laptop, which is of course a bit more modest (1.8 ghz Pentium M, 1 gig RAM, ATI Radeon 9600). The beta 2 revision driver updates from nVidia and ATI have also made a big difference in gaming performance as well.
One of the real annoyances with the previous builds was the network discovery… sometimes it would take a full minute for Vista to show me computers on my LAN at home and at work, but 5472 is very snappy. Since it won’t even be relased for at least another 6 months yet, this bodes well for the final release.
