Password Problems
-
I used PA 9.50 to ‘ADD’ files to a previously saved archive that was originally created using an older version of PA. It was a backup of key harddrive files.
The hard drive crashed and I now trying to extract the files; but the password does not work. I know the password that was created a year ago under the old version and it does not work.
This is only .zip file….
This is an emergency situation for me. Can someone please provide some thoughts?
Also, if I enter nothing in the password entry field, it acts like it is going to go ahead and extract the file (message in field at bottom mentions extracting), but nothing happens.

What type of password did you set - Zip or AES?
@edixon:I used PA 9.50 to ‘ADD’ files to a previously saved archive that was originally created using an older version of PA.
If you just open the Zip file in PA (using classic view), do you see the list of filenames? Can you extract only the non-password files - those that you added and have no + in the name listing?
@edixon:… trying to extract the files; but the password does not work.
Doing this, do you get an error message?

This is strange, you should get an error message.

Another question (sorry)-
What is the size of your zip file - and what is the size of the contents (I mean total size and number of files)? -
4.7 GB. 10,712 files.
Zip file.
I haven’t found any that allow me to pull one out.

4.7 GB. 10,712 files.
That is the problem.
Normal Zip format doesn’t support that file size. Unless you activated the PowerArchiver flag “Make Large Zip (over 4GB)” then I am afraid the Zip file is invalid.First make a copy of the ZIP for safety.
You could try the Repair Tool - but you will lose some of the contents even so.Note: I have never tried this so do not know exactly what the outcome will be. That is why I recommend making a safe copy first.

can you inform us exactly how you created the zip file and if indeed the problem is as the last post, then pa has a fault not informing you or stopping you doing that fault.

That has nothig to do with this thread, you should have done a search or created a new thread.
