    MSI release?
    J

I’m looking forward to deploying PowerArchiver 2023 to my users. Can you tell us when the MSI will be available for download and distribution?

    Thanks.

    Missing Icons
    LuxorL

Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

Security vulnerabilities in 7zip / Update for PowerArchiver and PACL libraries?
    BigMikeB

    Hi there,

there were some security issues fixed in 7zip:
    https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1165/
    https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1164/

As it seems, that PowerArchiver and PACL use the 7zip libraries, could you please update them to the latest version?

    Virtual Drive

    Hi,

From where I get PAVD2023.EXE? PowerArchiver 2023 tries to open it.
But it seems, it tries to download PAVD2021.EXE.

    Thanks

    Better ZPAQ support
    W

I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz

It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.

    Bug with "Encrypt Archive" action
    W

If I open a password-protected zipper file (created with WinRAR but I think that’s irrelevant), open it with PowerArchiver and run “Remove Encryption” on the same file, then reopen it and add a password with “Encrypt Archive,” the resulting archive will be protected with the old ZipCrypto algorithm and not AES as indicated.
(this can be verified, for example, by trying to open the archive files with Windows Explorer, which does not support the AES algorithm)

PA 21.00.18 Action / Test behaves oddly for me on .PA files
    Brian GregoryB

PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
    Discovered:
    a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
    b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.

What virus scanner do you use in connection with PA?

            Kaspersky Internet Security

I use it and strongly recommend to everyone. It is the most powerful security solution.

              @klumy:

What virus scanner do you use in connection with PA?

As nobody else has asked -

Do you mean under “Options / Configuration / Virus Scanner” ?
This may be interesting/informative in case of system problems/crashes - if so, my answer is “none” / “Blank”

If you are simply asking which Anti Virus program I use, then “antiVir Guard for Windows XP” and “TrendMicro”… 2 pc’s. But then I don’t understand why/what you are asking??

              @moles42:

              but each to his/her own I reckon…

              Exactly.

Zonealarm (which uses Kaspersky’s engine) last time I checked. And also Avast! Profesional.

Both insync on my Powerfull systems. Where ZoneAlarm on my Laptops and low end systems.

Lost faith in McAfee and Norton, as well as panda who all let virus on my system.

The latest version of ESET will bring PA to a crawl when extracting large archives. I’ve addressed the problem with the developers but they seem inept in fixing it. Currently using Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 beta. It’s a vast improvement compared to v7.

I use ESET NOD32 and quite frequently archive and unarchive large files ranging from 1gb to 8gb, and I haven’t noticed any problems with the speed on my machine.

perhaps the slow down you notice is due to the effectiveness of NOD32 at stopping potential threats to your system. ESET is #1 for a reason

                                      Usher,
These diagrams are linked to eset website. You can find similar on many other av vendors websites and they will show different results.

It is because nod32 doesn’t scan files in large compressed files.

you can ensure absolute computer protection if you disconnect it from all networks and prohibit using removable media.

also, ESET NOD32 lists Kaspersky on it’s website along with the competitor comparisons, but on Kaspersky’s website, it leaves out ESET NOD32. Surely not because it is a threat? :(
